vetrectomy

I am 65 years old and have a nearsighted eye and a forsighted eye.  I recently had many floaters appear in my nearsighted eye.  A few days later several opaque patches appeared and have caued my vision to become sometimes blurry in that eye.  My Dr. said the vitreous gel has become detached from the retina and has referred me to a retina specialist.  Alll this started about 2 months ago.

I have researched the treatment for this, and have even seen a video of a vetrectomy, but I have not seen any information on what kind of vision I can expect afrer a vetrectomy.  My retina, macular, and optic nerve is healthy, however I do have the very beginning sign of a cataract in that eye.

My question is, can I expect by vision to return to what it was before this happened?

Thanks,  Miller95

I don't think it's possible for anyone to answer your question online, since surgical outcome is variable and depends on the condition of your eye and other factors.  Your best source of information is your retinal specialist.  You might want to get more than one opinion from the best retinal specialists in your area before proceeding with surgery.  Best wishes.

A posterior vitreous detachment is a normal part of aging and does NOT require a vitrectomy. Much has been written on this in the two eye forums. Use the search feature and read these.
