vision loss after heart surgery

My mom had a heart attack and emergency bipass surgery, when she woke up, she had 0 vision, there are no cysts on the eyes or nerves, no visual cortex damage, eyes look fully intact, the doctors are calling it optic nerve myopathy. Has anyone ever heard of this or knows any reason why this happens.? She was in critical care for three months. but was put under anesthesia for the bypass.. And info would be helpful.

The most common cause is emboli (clots) from the surgical sight going to the eye or the part of the brain that perceives sight. See an neuroophthalmologist. find one at www.aao.org
