what is post cataract surgery CNV ?

Hi,
My doctor recommends an iol to correct my distance vision, to give me good vision for driving and downhill skiing. I may need glasses to read, but that's okay.  I was looking on-line and saw a reference to CNV , what is that please ?

Thanks
Hilary

One thing about acronyms-there are too many of them and often they are vague.

The only CNV  I can think of is "corrected near vision"  That means how well you see up close WITH GLASSES     It could also mean "choroidal neovascularization"

Thank you JCH,

Now I have to ask what IS  choroidal neovascularization? and do all cataract procedures result in that, approximately six years after the iol is inserted ?
Many thanks,

You need to ask whomever used that acronym to tell you what it means.

choroidal neovascularization is always abnormal, never part of a routine catarct surgery its tiny bloodvessels growing into the retina and damaging it

Thank you,

I was looking at research regarding the iols and read that the plasticisers in the lenses
( added  during manufacture, to keep them supple),  can cause allergic reaction in some patients and that CNV shows up within 6 years of the iol being implanted.

I am very comfortable now that I've done as much research and question-asking as I possibly can, and plan to have my cataract procedure and "long distance" iol implanted in spring. ( I figure my contact lenses will suffice until then). I did initially prefer the " accommodating" lens, but my eye surgeon says they are not perfected enough yet and he does not recommend them. I trust him, he's good.

Many thanks for explaining CNV !
