AFP results...

I posted this is pregnancy 35+ also...

Hey Ladies,
Sorry I haven't been on much, I got my results back for my AFP and they came back positive for spina bifida=*-( They said it was just slightly elevated but I have been such a wreck since then! I have to go back in Friday for another test to see where I stand then. They say try not to worry, but my god have you all read anything about spina bifida?? On a positive note though my niece tested positive also and my great niece is just fine. I can't help but worry though because of my age. I'm not even sure if that is a factor or not but you know when we get to this age everything and anything can go wrong! ACK I just hate to think about all of this!!!!!

Sorry this is long but I did need to express myself a bit!

Patty

Thanks Ladies,

I have gotten lots of information on all this and it still has me thinking different thoughts. The test they are going to do Friday is another AFP test. The doctor seems to think maybe it was a little too early. I hope this is the case.

Patty - I agree w/tina that these screening tests are a lot of b.s.  & cause nothing but a lot of stress.  Try not to worry too much (I know that's a lot to ask).  what kind of test do they do Friday?  I believe your little one also is fine - I too had a postive afp test w/one of my pg's and the baby was perfect!!

Gosh Patty, that is awful to think about! So many of these pre-screening tests are b.s. imo. Most of them do nothing but cause stress and strife. I'm praying for your little one and am very hopeful that it is all for nothing.

When I was pg, they gave me so many statistics, my head was spinning. When I mc, they tested the baby and he was 100% perfect.  My dr was amused by the following-He told me that I had odds of 1/80 for Downs. I asked him if that is true, Why are 85% of all Downs babies born to mothers under the age of 35?

From what little I know about SB, it is caused by lack of B vitamins & folic acid. This is why we all pop folic acid like tic-tacs in the ttc world. I just know everything is going to be fine.
