Chemical Pregnancy

I'm currently experiencing a chemical pregnancy. Its a major disapointment. I'm just wondering if anyone else out there had success soon after this type of experience???? The nurse at the RE's office said it will likely make me more fertile for the next time.

I also want to post this info I read that gives me some postive encouragement--for anyone else who may be and/or may go through this:

Ask Dr. Greenfield
Chemical Pregnancy

QUESTION
Dear Dr. Greenfield,
When I went to my doctor for a check up, they did a urine test, which said I was pregnant. This was about seven to nine days after I ovulated. I since have had another pregnancy test that came out negative. Could I still be pregnant or was I pregnant and possibly the baby didn't attach correctly?

Dear Worried Want-to-Be Mommy,
What probably happened is something called a chemical pregnancy--as you described, the pregnancy hormone hCG began to go up as a very early pregnancy developed, but it didn't establish itself, causing the pregnancy hormone to drop back down. While emotionally it can feel like quite a loss, medically it is more like a cycle in which you didn't get pregnant than a real miscarriage. It is one of the main reasons I recommend that people wait until after they have missed their period to take a pregnancy test. Otherwise it can give you false hope and then increase the disappointment that you aren't yet pregnant.

The fact that it got that far does give you some good information--the egg and the sperm met, and fertilized. Remember to take your folate and keep trying--success is probably just around the corner!

Thank you ladies for your responses.

My AF did come on Saturday. I had very painful cramping and its the same exact way you, sibs, described it. I'm glad it came b.c I didn't want to have to take a drug to induce it and I also want to "get back on the horse."   I totally agree with you about taking the HPTs...I'm going to try my best to wait at least 5 days past my missed period the next time around.  This is my SECOND pregnancy. I had a miscarriage at 6.9 weeks back in April. The nurse at the RE's office told me to take 81 mil of baby asprin to prevent blood clotting the next time around. So now I'm wondering if I have some kind of blood clotting problem and that's what's causing this to happen to me...I don't believe I was checked me for a blood clotting problem (I think its called Thrombophilia). Did either of your doctors tell you to take the baby asprin to prevent future miscarriages? Hmm...maybe I'll start a thread about baby asprin.

I am so sorry for you.  I would like to know the answer to this too.  I hate the waiting and want to get back on this horse as soon as I can.

Thanks for the post that you added.

Hang in there.

hi elisa , i am sorry to hear of the outcome i was so hoping things would turn out better for you than it did for me  hope you are feeling better i know its hard  as i mentioned i had the same experience only 2 weeks ago but the doc. did say it is quite common and it does not mean you wont have a successful pregnancy the next time i have vowed not to use early preg. tests anymore as we probably would not have even known had we not tested early i know its hard being patient and the waiting is agonising but we should just let nature take its course and it will happen when it is meant to when you least expect it and  the answer to your question is : yes af did come 2 days after i was due but i was quite heavy , bright red loss ( no pain though) lots of clots passed as well, do you have other children elisa anyway do take care please keep us updated and i hope we get a BFP ( permanent one that is ) very soon take care ps: your info. has been of great help and relief to me as well thanks
