Doc won't prescribe Progesterone? Some info?

Just want to start out wishing all of you lots of luck and love! This is such a  hard thing to go thru and finding this site is wonderful!

I'm one week into my 2ww after 1st IUI...keeping my fingers crossed ( and toes, and legs, and eyes). I had a miscarriage at 27yrs old and recently a chem preg then imm. following a miscarriage at 6wks preg last June

I keep hearing and reading about progesterone but doc says I dont need it???? Im not fond of my doc and will be switching, but for now...he is very negative regarding my age (39) and believes that is the only prob. re infertility/miscarriage (Ive left his office in tears due to his insensitivty)

Im not kidding myself re: my age/odds of preg. but want to do anything and everything poss.  not to lose another preg . Wish I could talk to doc about this but he has a terrible bedside manner and just gives me one word answers.

Preg. lost at 6wks all levels were good/high...nurse called after blood test to say levels (both HCH & Prog) were dropping and that I was going to miscarry.
All infertility testing came back poss...I seem to be unexplained or as doc says due to my age!!! Anyone help with a quick education on progest.??? Who is a candidate and why?  Should I go ahead and self medicate or could this hurt a potential preg?

Have you had a recent progesterone test?  How are your current levels looking?  I think that if he won't even give you a test then that is just plain wrong and you need to change doctors.  I hope for the best for you and your family.

I'm 38 with 4 m/c's in my life. My ob sent me after the last one to an RE. He ran every kind of test know to man I think. I had a polyp in my uterus. Plus, my progesterone was not what it should be. (although my ob had already put me on the prog suppositories.) I was also found to have the MTHFR gene mutation. Two copies........ This is one of the clotting disorders. So, I have to continue on the baby aspirin that my ob had already placed me on.  The only thing that my RE added was clomid 25 cd 3-7.
About you starting the progesterone, if you do just make sure that you have a clear thermal shift before you start or you could hinder 'o'.
Hope this helps.

I am sorry for your struggles.  You need to find another Dr.  There are so many out there that will be supportive and informative.  I am 38 and just had a FET and I am almost 10 weeks pregnant.  I have also had a m/c.  My RE put me on progesterone b/c he said it will thicken the lining of my uterus.  He put me on it day one with both pregnancies.  I have alot of friends who have gotten pregnant in late 30's early 40's with first babies.  Don't give up hope.  You will bring a new little life into the world!!!  This is hard enough to go through - the last thing you need is a Dr. who is not sympathetic.  I was soooo upset when my RE released me from his care b/c I adore him!!  I had some complications and he went above and beyond to care for me.  I wasn't crazy about my OB/GYN and he recommended me to someone who is just a nice as he is.  I found my RE through an uncle who is a physician.  Ask around b/c you also want someone who is a really good clinician.  Good Luck!!!

I am sorry to hear about your losses and that you have a horrible MD!!!!  Yes, you need to change and I was wondering that since you miscarry....why didn't they test you for clotting disorders???   I had this done....they take about 10 vials of blood but it covers a lot of disorders...if this is positive they may put you on asprin (81mg), or even heparin shots???  Also, I think you need to change Dr.s.... you know your body best and he should at least listen!!!  What a jerk!!!  Do you know of another Dr. in your area??? and have you been to a fertility specialist based on your past??? this may be where to start...  Good luck to you.....
