FOLLICLES TOO SMALL??

I was on clomid and did not respond in jan. I dont ovulate or get AF naturally. This time I was on femara cd 3-7 and was adding in the ovidrel shot but the past 4 u/s showed all follicles were on the small side.. they didnt give me an exact # as they grouped them all < 12mm. Today is CD 23 and i went in for b/w and u/s.. the tech told me today i have one follicle on the left ovary that is now 9mm. Is this normal size at this cd?? Nurse told me since im so irregular its common to see no progress early on but some go on to have big follicles and get to do the trigger shot and some end up getting their cycle cancelled. I was prepared to cancel this cycle since nurse mentioned dr may cancel if my follicles dont progress which means i did not respond to the femara. Now i dont know if i AM responding to femara but its just really late since im so irregular or if dr will go ahead and cancel this cycle seeing 9mm is still small and dr wanted to see at least 16mm and up for me to do the trigger shot.

Has anyone experience this before or heard stories similar to this?? I will get a call from the nurse this afternoon with results/insts but not having high hopes at this point.

Hi Onefour,

I did 1 cycle of clomid 100 mg but i did not respond to the clomid which was not surprising b/c i was also on clomid about 5 yrs ago and did not ovulate either. RE then changed meds and put me on 7.5 mg of femara and there was no progress during bw/us so yesterday nurse called and said dr wants to cancel this femara cycle.

I'm taking a break this month and will start my follistim + timed intercourse cycle in May. RE wants to put me on a very low dose b/c i have pcos i am at high risk for multiple births and if i produce more then 4 mature follicles she will want to cancel the cycle due to my young age (26) and triplets or more. I almost want to just say screw it and BD anyway if she cancels my cycle since im paying out of pocket why not go all the way to the end.. if i conceive and its multiple births then so be it.. as long as they are healthy but we'll see. At this point i am just hoping that i will respond to the follistim... i've used it before in the past and i did produce good follicles so i hope god is on my side this time.

Yang,

How many cycles were you on clomid before moving to injectables?  I was on 5 cycles.  The 5th cycle I did a combination of clomid and injectables.  I responded differently each cycle.  Sometimes I would get big follicles early and sometimes later in my cycle.  I've been told that with the same women every cycle can be different.  Keep us posted on your progress.

Yeah, I totally understand...we had to pay out of pocket, too. The costs involved are just much too high! But it is what it is, I guess... Best of luck with your injectable cycle! I hope you get your BFP your first cycle, too!

Thanks Heather5 for the feeback. You were right.. nurse just called and said dr wants to cancel as i did not respond to the femara and blood works shows my estrogen levels are still at baseline so nothing has changed.

Next step is injections.. i hope and pray this will work for me since ins dont cover infertility i'm paying outta pocket and monitoring cost me $650/cycle... cant afford this month after month so i really hope i'll get my first BFP on my first cycle of injections.

Only 9 mm on CD23 is small, especially since you were on the meds in the early part of your cycle. Unfortunately, I think this cycle might be a bust for you...but you never know...maybe it will continue to grow and ovulate. I'm sure your doctor will let you know soon. Best of luck!
