This site has some expected levels for day 3 FSH
http://www.advancedfertility.com/day3fsh.htm.
Basically, under 10 is OK, 10 - 12 is fair, 12- 15 reduced ovarian reserve, 15 - 20 not too good, over 20 poor. The level of measure is mIU/mL. FYI, I am 40 years old and my FSH is 14 and I've gotten pregnant 3x recently (unfortuantely miscarried). So even a moderately high level does not mean you can't conceive, its just harder and more of your eggs are low quality.
FSH is tested along with estrogen on day 3 (or day 2), sounds like you may have done day 1 (or 28? if it was the last cycle day). If in fact it is as high as 50 when you re-test, that is a problem as it could indicate premature ovarian failure. I hope that is not the case (I really don't want to worry you), but if so, please talk to your doctor.
You should get this test done on CD3...there are some suggested ranges of these levels for CD3.
I am 27.
I did not do it on the 3rd day of cycle.
Since I didnt get my periods for 2 month the doc asked me to get a blood work.
I got my periods the day I went for the blood tests.
Doctor has asked me to repeat FSH.
I hope its not disastrous.
What day of your cycle was this tested at? The number itself doesn't mean much without some context.
Also, did you have the test taken on cycle day 3?
The FSH level seems pretty high in my opinion. How old are you and when did you have the test done?...here is some info that I found on the Internet:
Normal Values
Female:
Premenopausal: 5 to 30 IU/L
Midcycle peak: 10 to 60 IU/L
Pregnancy: low to undetectable
Postmenopausal: Greater than 30 IU/L
Note: IU/L = international units per liter.
