Got Quadruplets after IUI,Doc suggest Feotus Reduction

Hi all,
Im getting 1 shock after another..went for my 6 weeks scan. Foudn that i was carrying quadruplets. Doc simply told me that i go for feotus reduction 2 only have twins. Would be done on the 3rd month...May i know what are the chances of having healthy twins after feotus reduction. Doc advised me not have all 4 as they wld be born preterm which mite raise other complications..anyone gone thru feotous reduction before and would like to share their experience. really appreciate it...

To be clear, IUI (ie: science) gave her quadruplets. Advising someone to keep all four when her doctor is advising reduction is irresponsible. All bodies are different, reduction does have risk, but carrying four to term could put mom and babies at major risk as well.

I agree with your previous answer.  God gave you those 4 babies.  I would never be able to end the lives of two of my babies I worked so hard to have.

Think of those who have had 5,6 even 8 babies(octomom).  All the babies survived without major complications.

I also heard of someone reducing from triplets to twins and miscarring all of them.

I pray you find peace in your decision.  It is one I do not envy you having to make.  I can't imagine having to make it.  I would always wonder about the other 2.  I would end up with 4 in the end!   Anyway, I hope this all works out, and you get 2 happy healthy babies at the end of this journey.  Please keep updated on your progressions.

xo,
Melissa

May you find peace in whatever you decide. This is a BIG risk with IUI and IVF and my biggest fear! Take care. God will love you no matter what you decide.

thanks to all who have taken time to share your views...i tink im still gg to go ahead wif the reduction..in singapore its very expensive to have a kid let alone for kids which will be born preterm..each kid at birth is gonna cost me $30K so for 4 kids its gonna cost me $120K...i rather keep 2....i hope im making the rite decision.

to give the other side, i have a friend who decided not to reduce and lost all 4 due to preterm labor and delivering them at 18 weeks.

convenient of others to say it is "god's will" you became pregnant with quads so you shouldn't reduce despite the advice of your physician, but in reality you had to rely on modern medicine to conceive in the first place.

personally, i would reduce.  the risk of losing all of them during  a reduction is less than complications during the pregnancy of quads.

You have a very difficult discision to make. make sure that you and DH agree with the dicision.  TV rarely shows the bad things that can happen when carrying and delivering multiples however I did see a show once about deaf and blind triplets.

My sister in law got pregnant with quads through IUI as well.  They are now 3 years old and none have any problems.  They were born early but there were no major complications.  They had lots of help and have done a great job.  God gave you these precious blessings.

I am sorry to say I would have to agree with the women above.  The medical field is so advanced today, and there are so many multiples being  born,  I would feel confident in their abilties to get the babies as far along as possible, and that they would be healthy.  I would hate to be in your shoes and having to think of losing 2 of your babies, especially by your doctors hand.  I would really sit and think about the reduction.  I know personally, I couldn't do it.

Good Luck to you and my you make the decision that is right for you.

How would you pick which ones to keep and which ones to destroy?
I understand your concerns, they are all reasonable. But I don't think I would do it either.
You wanted a baby bad enough to do iui. Well, God gave you 4! How lucky that God thinks you can handle that! You must be a pretty awesome person (and will turn out to be a wonderful mom too I bet).
If you believe that life starts at conception, aren't you glad that your mom didn't choose fetal reduction (before OR after birth)?! I know I am!
You can do this. Life isn't supposed to be easy, but we are supposed to have fun and share love and what an opportunity you have!

What's better than having 2 kids to love? .....having four of them to goober all over! :)

I agree, If you were blessed to bring four...God is going to guide after your pregnancy. It's not easy but never impossible! GOD bless you with what ever you decide!

I have not gone thru this but I see many on tv these days on TLC.  I think the risk is higher for m/c after doing this.  I hate to tell you that but I am sure you heard it already.
My friend did go thru it & wound up losing them all.

If I were you, I would GO FOR IT!!  This is what God gave you, so he knows you can handle it.

Best Wishes!
