How to LOWER HcG Levels after Miscarriage?

My HcG levels were over 15,000 when we had to have a D & C (blighted ovum).   Two days later they went waydown to 1800. That's a great drop, but the level needs to get down to 2.  The nurse said don't be surprised if they linger for awhile.

DOes anyone have any adivice to LOWER the level and get the hormone out of your system to get your body back on track?

I have been drinking about 2 gallons of water everyday and doing moderate exercise hoping to cleanse out my system.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

At a total loss for information, was diagnosed pregnant on March 20, hcg level was at 226, a week later started bleeding (like my period) went to the hospital on March 26, told I had a miscarriage, levels went to 112, went back to the Drs. a week later and levels had risen to 689, checked two days later and they were at 777, had ultrasound 3 days later and they saw nothing, levels yesterday were at 1000, my levels are rising, but no tissue was seen in the uterus and no sac either, have another ultrasound scheduled for next week since the levels are over 1000.  Any clue?

I am going through my 1st miscarriage for a blighted ovum. Have 2 kiddos already without any complications with those.

At 8 weeks u/s showed empty sack, checked Hcg levels and they were at 22,907. They sent to have another u/s at 9.5 weeks and it also showed empty sac measuring 6w1d, the next day I started to bleed period type bleeding.

2 days after the second u/s, a week after the first u/s, the doc did another u/s and said the sac was shrinking and was about half the size of the week before at the initial u/s.

They scheduled a D&C which I cancelled since I was bleeding and it wasn't terrible. I decided to avoid the procedure until I knew I needed it due to the risks of surgery (and I kind of freaked out at the thought of them scraping my uterus). The doc said she was fine waiting to see if it completed on its own. They had me come in for more bloodwork a week after the 2nd ultrasound and the level was still at 10,000. They said it seemed high but as long as I was still bleeding they weren't worried.

Went in two days after the 10,000 count; 2 weeks after the initial u/s and level of 22907. Level is at 7800 now. They said since it is falling and I am still bleeding they are not worried. I will need to go back in 1 week to make sure it continues to fall. The bleeding has started to get a little heavier the last 2 days, but just to the level of what I would consider the heaviest day of a normal period.

The bleeding has been really come and go with some days just light spotting and others just a medium flow, not much more than a regular period. Just hoping that it doesn't get to much worse and that the levels drop off a lot in another week. I guess since they have fallen a little more than 1000 per day I can expect them to be almost normal in the next week or so which would be about 2 weeks since the start of bleeding. Hopefully they won't hit a plateau.

By the way, I started drinking strong coffee yesterday (the whole pot throughout the day) to try to "stimulate" things and get this over with. It seems to be working since I started to bleed and cramp a little heavier about an hour later and it has been consistent even today with another pot of coffee. Although it is also works like a laxative so beware:)

I am on my third M/c. 1st one went naturally at 8 weeks. What a mess, I will always opt for the D&C at that point!

2nd one died at 9 weeks but my body did not know it. I went to OBGYN at week 13 and she told us the bad news and she said we could go either way so I went for D&C to get it going as I had no signs of loss at that time (other than a broken heart). I had to have a 2nd d&c 2 months later due to clotting and my hcg levels were still technically"pregnant". We were not doing anything to create another baby as I was bleeding pretty heavy and in pretty severe pain the entire 2 months. Finally a month later we were able to get back int he saddle, but I have no idea what my hcg was then.

3rd one we knew we lost Jan 4th at aprox 5 weeks. My hcg has been back & forth but still in the technically "pregnant" range. I had what appeared to be one normal period (just late)I went from:
Jan 2-66
Jan 4-35
Jan 10-45
Jan 14-35

and I go back on Monday for another test. We are seeking medical help with conception so that is the reason we keep going back to test. We can't start another round of clomid, hcg & progesterone without clearing this one. The doctor's office does not seem to think there is reason to freak out just yet, I am building up a list of questions if this next one is still high. I am well over 35 and trying to at least have one healthy baby before 40. Tick-tock!

I wish I knew the secrets to speeding this up.

GL & KMFX for all of us!

I had a miscarriage last Tuesday, when they did my blood work, my HCG level was at 28,000. They wanted me back a week later, was this Tuesday, drawn more blood, did another ultrasound, found nothing in my uterus,  my HCG level went up to 46,000. They asked me to go to the hospital Wednesday for another ultrasound and more blood work, my HCG level went up to 48,000. Ultrasound found nothing and said that my body pass but found a Gestational Trophoblastic Tumor. They're sending me over to an Oncology doctor next week to check to see if it's cancer in my placenta.

Hello,
I need some advice.  I had a miscarriage on March 15 followed by a d and c a week later.  Weeks later, my hcg levels were not going down very much so I was back in for an internal ultrasound only to find tissue that was left from my d and c.  So, I was back in for another d and c two weeks ago to get forgotten tissue.  In one week, my levels dropped from 200 to 88 then from 88 to 64 the following week.  I'm desperate to get these back down to zero as this is my second miscarriage and want a sibling for my daughter.  I just can't understand why it's taking so long for them to get back to zero seeing as they only started out at 200!  Someone mentioned the drug Cytotec....thoughts?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

actually there is no need to monitor the HCG levels.  THey'll come down by themselves.  It is normal that it takes 4 - 8 weeks to get your period back after a miscarriage.  If you haven't got it back within about 2 months, then would be the time to get checked out.

I've had a few miscarriages and we've never checked HCG levels.  Just waiting for the next period to start showing that the next cycle was happening.

I know exactly what you are going through.  I've been going through a miscarriage now for two weeks (the bulk last week) and have had similar results.  I'm now at 230 myself.   From what I understand doctors want to stay on top of the numbers until they reach zero to make sure that everything is out and to prevent other risks and make sure there isn't more going on than a simple miscarriage.  If the numbers don't reach 0 on their own the doctor will usually order a d&c or medicine to "clear" everything out and drop the levels. If everything isn't out the body may be tricked into thinking it is pregnant again and then you will end up developing more tissue and levels will increase then you will bleed again and numbers will go down (this yoyo can last up to several weeks...no fun)

Look into some free clinics or maybe ask if you can wait a week or so to get your levels tested again. (piece of mind is worth it!)  Not sure where you are from, but I know in Boston there are several that will see you regardless of your ability to pay. Planned Parenthood may be able to help you.

I had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago hcg levels went from 900 to 230 and today i went and took another blood test. I am a college student with no money to pay for the doctors bill. what happens if i dont go back to get blood tests monitored and just let it drop on its own? i should just get my period when they go back to zero and ill be ok right?

Ask your doctor if he can prescribe progesterone (provera) to jump start your period.  You take it for 7-10 days, then after about a week you should have your period.  If not, there could be some other problem causing your lack of a period.

After my first D&C, it was 10 weeks and no period.  My doctor also said it was due to stress, so put me on provera.  It took another few weeks but I finally got my period and was able to ttc again.

I had a d & c 5 weeks ago.  My last bloodwork showed my hcg level to be at 5.  I'm supposed to go in 2 weeks to get hcg levels tested again.  I've heard it can take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks.  If you want to get pregnant again soon, it might be a good idea to go in every week or 2 to get your levels tested.  From what I understand, you won't ovulate or get your period until the levels are at 0.

hello everyone,
i found out on september 17th (also, horribly, my 32nd birthday) that my baby had died, and i had the choice of either a d&c or wait for my body to naturally expel the baby and tissues my uterus had built for pregnancy. i chose the natural method, i have horrible anxiety at the hospital/dr.'s office, and i thought this would be much easier on me. so 3 days later, i began spotting.
after about 5 days of spotting, i bled more heavily, much like a normal period, only more tissuey, and now i'm back to spotting. i feel like my body has expelled what it needs to, and that i'm on the road to recovery. however, i took a pregnancy test this morning, and it still came out positive! no way i'm pregnant. the deed has not been done. my husband and i have distinctly not felt sexy since this happened.

i'm hoping that someone can tell me if this is normal. my hcg level is obviously high enough for a positive result on a pregnancy test, so how long does it take to drop all the way down?  any feedback on this would be great! thanks!

Well, I think what I am doing is working so far.   My levels went from 1800 Thursday to 311 Sunday.  I hope they keep dropping quick.
I don't think I want to take any drugs... I'd like to get this out ofme naturally.
Well, water seems to be working.
I guess it is the metobolism... I have a quick metaobilism so everything is moving quick.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL and I thank you for your input.

My RE prescribed Cytotec.  I hear it has only been used for about 2+ years but it brought me to a big fat 0 so I could get started IVF again.  I started stimulation yesterday!  Good Luck - Hope you are feeling well.

Mine were even higher than that and was back to 0 2 wks after d&c. I was 12 wks. I don't think there's any way to bring Hcg back down other than time.

If you hear of any let me know as during my last miscarriage I tried everything and they went down on their own time.  My doctor told me that the hormone is in your blood system and it all depends on how your body metabolizes stuff and that it just goes down at it's own pace.  My levels were like yours at the time of the D&C and they were 900 the day after.  It took 4 weeks to get to zero.  I know...frustrating!  I'm most likely going to miscarry this time also so I'll be in the same boat again.  ARGH...
