IVF with no fertilized eggs

I have been doing IVF. I had my Egg Retrival and got 20 eggs out.  Yesterday and got the call this morning that no eggs were fertilized and now the doctor is going to inject the eggs with the sperm. I would like to know if anyone else has had this happen? I would also like to know what is the percentage that the eggs will fertilize after the injection? I am so upset with all the work we have done for this and out of 20 eggs none have done good.

Hi, this happened to me.  I had 13 embryos retrieved and only 1 fertilized, the clinic did a rescue ICSI.  On taht occassion my IVF failed but it was completely due to other extremely stressfull reasons.  The second time my IVF worked and I am now pregnant
My friend had 22 embryos retrieved and not one fertilized, she had rescue ICSI done and now she is 10 weeks pregnant.  So don't stress over it, keep the faith.  Good luck!

Oh  my goodness...what a heartbreaking story. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Best of luck with your next cycle in January! I think you'll have a much better chance doing ICSI right away than the rescue ICSI!

I am about to have my first retrieval tomorrow but we are doing half ICSI meaning they will inject half & hopefully let the other half go naturally.
I am sorry for the loss of your children. I am sure this will work for you next time.
Best wishes...

Thanks for all the comments. Yes it was a rescue icsi. We had 3 fertilize to 4 cells. They put the 3 back in none took. Now I am back on BC to start over with next ER in Jan. I am so disapointed. The doctor said there is no medical reason why this didn't work. I am only 28 and my husband is 33. We had 3 children together. I got my tubes tied after our last baby. And we were so happy with our family. unfortunately we lost all our babies in a car accident about 3 years ago. We have now begun the in vitro process. I didn't know it was gonna be so tough. But with what we have been through we can make it through anything. The doctor is doing ICSI this next time. So god willing we will be parents again.

tan722 and AIY: I'm so sorry to hear about your fertilization rates. Unfortunately, there's usually no way of knowing in advance how the fertilization will go. Some embryologists suggests ICSI for all women over a certain age, but it really varies quite a bit from clinic to clinic. Plus ICSI costs more, so it also depends on the couple and what they can afford.

Tan722, what they did in your case is usually referred to as "rescue-ICSI". I hope it worked for you!

AIY: Lots of women on here have had IVF with ICSI...but I'm not sure if they had a known fertilization issue to begin with, or if it was just standard protocol at the clinic they went to.

Best of luck to both of you!

We had IVF .we got 18 eggs of good quality. Sperm quality was good as well. 1 fertilized normally and 1 abnormally, that what doctor and embryologist told us but they counted 1 fertilized. We got call on day 1 for embryo transfer on day 2 .we got the call again from the doctor at 9 pm same day. She didn’t tell us but she was explaining us many reasons that why this can happen.
We anticipated that we might get call next day that the only embryo did not make, so as we anticipated we got call from the clinic in the morning that the only embryo did not survive. Next day we met the doctor and she again told all the possible reasons based on ifs. She was not clear that what exactly was the reason and she suggested us ICSI. I am upset and not to sure what to do? All sorts of ART s are very expensive and time consuming . did any one has the same issue ???

When they inject the sperm is called ICSI. They dont usually do that unless they think you have a fertilization problem. I am sorry you had to go through all that but at least you know what the issue is and next time they will know what to do. Please dont give up hope.

What???? I have never heard of that! the way they should have done it since the beginning was to iinject each individual egg with a perm and wait to see what grows... they kind of realized the procedure a bit too late. I hope the sperm is still ok!!! Actually I think it is so you will be OK!!!!
I will be praying for you:)
