IVF

Just wondering if anyone just started their ivf cycle.  I'm on day 5 of this cycle.  Right now, I'm on menupur, but that might change when I go in for my bloods and u/s tomorrow.

I went in on the 20th.  We got 12 eggs and Saturday is the transfer day.  We are waiting to hear how many fertilized....

Our internet connection is so wacky lately, it is hard to get connected.

Hi Kele1129,

Did you find out which day you go in for your retrival?

The most I've gotten tranfered before is three.  I just came back from my u/s and it looks like I am going to only get 2 for reteival. Both follicles are exactly the same size of 18.3.  I wanted more, but I'm taking a lot less medicine during this ivf cycle than the last 3, so we expected to get a lot less.

Kele1129 that is great new that everything is going so well.

I've never posted before but was reading your post, and saw that you and I had our transfer done on the same day.  I'm wondering about symptoms as well.  The only thing I've noticed so far is that my breasts are tender, but I thought that was due to the progesterone I've been taking.  This is my first round of IVF, after 5 IUIs with Clomid, so I'm not sure if I should be feeling anything yet?  I had 14 follicles retrieved, 10 mature and 9 fertilized with ICSI.  They actually transferred 4, which really shocked me, as I was preparing for 2 or 3 max!  Has anyone had that many transferred, and if so what was the outcome?  I go in for my blood test on Monday and am so nervous.  Thanks for sharing

hello ladies-

I just went through my second IVF cycle.  The first one was last september. I got pregnant but miscarried.  We only had 8 follicles the first time, 3 fertilized.  So the doctor doubled the dosage of follistim to 600 iu per day with one vial of menopur.  My ovaries were in a lot of pain...but I responded much better to the meds this time.  We had 15 follicles this time, with the majority of them at least 20 mm.  10 fertilized into embryos, one was 10 celled, 2 were 7 celled, a 5 cell, and the rest were 8-celled with really good quality.  We decided to do the transfer on day 5 and 2 very good blastocysts(grade A) were placed back in the uterus.  We were supposed to freeze the remaining blastocysts but I got a call from the lab saying that none were frozen...i guess they wouldn't have survived the thawing process.  We had the transfer on February 9th and I am now 6 days post transfer.  I felt nausea and breast pain almost 2 weeks after the transfer at the last IVF cycle.  I'm not feeling anything yet, just some tender breasts.  I don't go in for a beta hcgtest until the 23rd.  I took a HPT this morning that came back negative.  It might be too early for the home test to detect anything so i'm trying not to freak out.  Some people feel weird right away and some people don't feel anything until they're 4 or 6 weeks pregnant.  I'm trying to stay positive, this is so hard.
Good luck to all of you out there battling with IVF...you're not alone!

Just got back from the u/s.  I have about 16 follies between the 2 ovaries and they all measure between 12-15 mm.  I am so relieved to know that I am responding to the meds and that the shots are almost over.  It looks like we are looking at retrieval mid week next week.  I am so exited that this is really going happen.

Hi Kele1129,

With Ivf you will have twingyness and a full feeling due to your ovaries working over time and producing more follicles. I have the same issues with sitting for a long period of time, so yes it is normal.  Good luck on your utrasound tomorrow.  Keep us posted.

I hope you don't mind me joining in ^_^.

I am doing IVF for the first time and am on my fifth day of Menopur(2amps) and Bravelle(2 amps), setting up for the actual shot makes it looks like we are running something hinky out of our kitchen.

I go in tomorrow for the first ultrasound to see how the follies are doing.  I hope that all the twingyness and full feeling is a good sign. I can't sit for long periods of time as it makes my ovaries feel not so good. As you both have done IVF, is this a normal sign?

Here's a little update.  I am on day 8 of my cycle and I started the centrotide this morning.  Got a call from the nurse last night about my results and she was surpised that another one of my other follicles grew about the same six as the 12 on the left.  Now I have two one 13 and an 11.  I am really hoping the smaller ones that are less than an 8 will catch up.  I also know that I can't be too stressed about this knowing that we want quality instead of quanitity.  The truth is I'm very stressed out.

That's good that 4 fertilize.  Some women get less than that.  I really hope that your embryos are great quality and you get pregnant this month.
Menupur is the stimulation medicine.  When the nurse called me she told me that the doctor wants me to take cetrotide either tomorrow or the next day.  She said cetrotide helps stop ovulation.  I hope it works. I will find out tomorrow exactly when I'm suppose to take it. I can't believe how fast one is growing compare to the rest.   This sucks!!!!

wanted to update you with my numbers too:  7 eggs retrieved, 4 mature, 4 fertilized. I'm a littl disappointed with that, considering my nurse said I had "several" that were mature size. But I guess even if they are the right size, that doesn't mean they contain an egg?  I don't know, I'm tired of playing doctor.  I know I should be happy with 4-it only takes one.  We'll see how they develop by Thursday.
I sometimes think I get crabby after retrival, because of what's going on with hormones.
I'm not familiar with menupur-will it slow down the one, or will it make the others catch up?

The doctor's office just called me to tell me that they want to up my menupur to 2 powders instead of 1 and to come back tomorrow.  They also told me that I have 1 follicle growing much faster then then rest.  Now, I am very nervous.

Even though they put the embryo' s in your uterus it still can change direction and go toward the fallopian tubes.  This is the period where it had not implanted itself yet.  I would say the first 72 hours after transfer.  The percentage of that happening is about 3% for IVF.  When I had an ectopic pregnany I did have the same symptoms as a regular pregnancy except I kept on getting a sharp pain on my side.

With IVF how do you get an ectopic pregnancy?  My doctor pushed the eggs in to the side of the uterus.  How do they get to the fallopian tubes, or outside of the uterus?  And do you have the same symptoms as a regular pregnancy?

I really hope they call you with good news.  The first ivf I did I only had 1 fertilize out of 5, but that was a min. stim. and we did not do ICSI.  The second one I did was a full stim with more medication and only 3 fertilized out of 5 the rest of the eggs that were retrived were not mature enough for ICSI.  We did get pregnant, but it was ectopic.  The third cycle we did was a full stim, but with a different protocal which included a lot more medication than the second cycle and again only 3 were fertilized.  For the fourth ivf cycle they wanted to do a min stim with ICSI to see if one of the reasons why I'm not getting good quality embryo's is because of the increase of the medication.

No call yet!  I'm expecting it around 5:00 pm as well. The nurse who does my ultrasound monitering doesn't give me very specific numbers, and I don't ask. It's more like "oh you have several follicles over 10" or something along those lines, so I'm not sure what to expect.
I think if yours are growing too quickly, they can adjust the meds to slow things down?  But I'm not sure.
We really got kicked in the gut last time when we found out we only had 6 retrieved (because we tried a new medication protocol and it was supposed to produce MORE eggs, not less), and of those only 3 fertilized.  But, we got pregnant, so there's just no telling.

I just went this morning for bloods and utrasound.  Today is day six and on the u/s it revealed I had a 12 on the left with 3 small ones that were less than an 8 and on the right I had 2 small ones less than an eight.  I'm concerned about the larger one growing too fast.  I won't find out about my blood levels until 5:00 tonight.  Did they call you yet about your egg retrival?

The IVF coordinator will call tomorrow with our egg retrival and fertilization information.  The first time we had 8 mature, the second time we had 6. I'm hoping for at least 8, since we changed back to our original medication protocol.  I did achieve pregnancy the second time, but miscarried. I don't even know waht to expect or what to feel anymore, I'm just letting things take their course.  Good luck with your cycle, keep me updated.
