Ivf?

I have had three miscarriages in the past eight years. I'm a little concerned about IVF because of the women that have had multiple babies I think my only option if my husband and I are not able to conceive is adoption. Is there any way while doing IVF treatment to make sure that there is only one embryo and not multiples?

Thanks girl! i work out like crazy. I have two beautiful children that i have adopted and they keep me on the go all the time. Plus dh and i like to do a lot of out doors activities.  My re was happy i gained he thought i was to skinny to start with and thought that might be the problem.

Bunny: i will tell u all i know about adopting if u decide to go that route. i love my two boys. We have had them for over a year now and have enjoyed it. I might adopt again when they get older. It was always a part of the plan for dh and myself to adopt after our children got older. We wanted them to be the oldest and someone for our other babies to look up to. plus i figured we would adopt the older ones since they have such a hard time or at least be there foster parents for life.  God just changed the plan on us and i am glad he did. my two are such a blessing.

I gained about 35 lbs during my IVF pregnancy, but I gained a lot more than "normal" in the beginning, and felt like I looked pregnant from the get-go! And the bloating from the procedure and meds certainly didn't help, especially since you continue the progesterone till the end of the first trimester (or close to...I stopped at 11 weeks or so). But the funny thing is, this time around, I got pregnant naturally (surprise!), and at 35 weeks, I'm about the same weight as I was during my last pregnancy, so it does seem to even out as the pregnancy progresses. Of course, I started off a few lbs heavier this time...so all in all, I'm guessing it will be about 30 lbs this time around. Best of luck with your appointment next week!

With 2 of my mc, i gained 20 lbs too, but, we may not just blame the drugs totally, we eat more thats a pleasure we choose as part of guilt from meds, so we shouldnt pamper so much ourselves, i just realized its time to loose and started with balanced diet and walking as it is summer already, so i could manage to loose couple of lbs by now, so i realized that its our self conscious that would keep us fit and fine. good luck.

Sure Bunny, based on embryo quality you can opt to transfer only one, and in some cases, they transfer 2, but later on one can be taken out at right time, so dont hesitate, if possible go for it, you may adopt later if you really keen, being too young its too early you decide on adoption. good luck hon.

It is good to hear from some one who has been through it and it worked the first try. I go for my first ivf appointment next week with a new re. I am so nervous. I put on 20 lbs with iui and mcs so i am worried about how much i will put on with ivf. so far i only have 10 of those off. how much did u gain?

rmmoye is right. It all depends on how many embryos are transferred back. Most doctors will only do two or three at the most; but even if they suggest two, you could always ask to just have one transferred. The only drawback to only transferring one, is that your chances are a little lower, since you won't have a "back-up" in case the first one doesn't take.  I did IVF last time I was pregnant. Of the two that were transferred, one took, and I now have a beautiful 2-year-old daughter.

By the way, just wanted to add that a lot of the women with high-order multiples didn't actually do IVF, but used fertility drugs to produce a lot of eggs and then just tried naturally by having intercourse or by doing IUI. There's a lot less control that way, and if you end up with a lot of eggs, most doctors cancel the cycle....but some decide to to go ahead and try anyway. John and Kate, for example did IUI, and so did that other couple with sextuplets (can't remember their names). BUT octomom, on the other hand, did get her multiples through IVF....not sure WHAT her doctor was thinking transferring that many!

Best of luck with your decision!

yes u can choose how many they put in you. Most women put in 2-3 and end up with 1 and some times 2. these crazy stories u here where the women have (3-+) are where dr.s put in 5-10 fertilized multiple cell embryos. I also know some women that get twins but lose one a few weeks into it.   I am going to transfer 3 if i get that many because i have had several mc. I am hoping at least 2 will take but will be happy with one. i am doing this  so if i mc again i will still have a little baby in there.

Gl to u. I will meet with my dr. about ivf next week.  if u have any questions feel free to ask.
