Oh I also forgot if you do not have monthly cycles am haven't bled for a while - they will give you tabs called norethisterone which causes you to bleed after taking them - you are meant to have 8 cycles a year at least to have a healthy womb - I don't have normal cycles perhaps once every 13 month and I bleed for months on end and have to be given stuff to stop it but I took my norethisterone and had a monthly at the beginning of this month and I take glucophage which is a slow releasing metformin as I can't stomach 2000mg or even 500mg of metformin.
I then started my clomid this month and had my scan to see if a folicle had been produced and it had and I ovulated this weekend. With clomid you then have blood tests 2 weeks after to see if an egg was released and also to see if your eggs are in good supply and healthy.
As clomid needs to be controlled its not given by GPS as it can cause an over reaction and too many folicles can occur and cause complication or the basic dose may not have stimulated your ovaries. Also 1 In 10 people who use clomid can have multiple pregnancies etc.
Your husband or bf will need to be tested for sperm counts etc to make sure he is fit and healthy.
It's a complex long road but its so worth it in the end :-)
Hope this helps you x
Hun - metformin is us to regulate your periods and to make your body accept hormones that are somewhat all over the place which is caused by the pcos.
GPS won't give you clomid - you have to be referred to a fertility specialist as its a very complex thing and you need monitoring closely.
When you start your cycle (obviously metformin every day anyhows) you will take 1 tab of clomid on 2-5 of your cycle, this in turn should produce a healthy folicle which carries egg causing you to ovulate.
You need to have been trying for a while before clomid or fertility specialist is even considered though.
I have been through and am still going through this as I have pcos and recently had the c word. I have 2 kids youngest 7 which I conceived on the pill designed for pcos - not meant to happen but I have never conceived naturally and after 6 years of trying and miscarrying twins at 4.5 months just before my youngest - I knew that I would struggle again hence going through all this.
It does work Hun an you have to stay positive - if you need any advice please message Hun. Good luck xx
do you start clomid and metformin on the same day? how many days in a month do you take clomid for? and the same for metformin?
I am going to email my doc tomorrow. :) I am on day 6 of provera and just started metformin so i will increasing to 2 pills on the 11th and 3 pills on the 21st. They told me to increase it every 10 days (i've read online that some people do it for just 7 days...is there a difference?) So if i get my period late next week or ever the week after I will have the 3 full pils of metformin on board and then hopefully the clomid. i hope my doc doesn't have a problem prescribing both for me. fingers crossed!
Thanks Jroxy and Lynniepooh! I appreciate it so much!
I agree metformin will not get you pregnant. it just helps. if you want to increase your chances you should try taking clomid with metformin. and if you dont get a period on your own you should get on provera to keep your linning just right. Good luck
thanks Lynniepooh!!! I am going to email my doc tomorrow and see if she will let me do the clomid too. I've gotten pregnant on clomid before but miscarried both times. So it sounds like I might have a better chance of keep the pregnancy if I stay on the metformin during the pregnancy then...do you take it the whole time or just a little while during the pregnancy?
I appreciate your advice so much!!! best wishes!
Metformin will not help you get pregnant! Its can help regulate your period and help keep you pregnant because us women with pcos have a higher risk of miscarrying! Clomid and help you ovulate or help you have better eggs if you ovulate on your own!
I started taking metformin this month and I has little side effects from it! I will be taking 2 pills a day starting tomorrow. You should take the clomid if your doc thinks its a good idea and will help you!
