Letrazole vs clomid

I had a natural miscarriage on Febuary 8th. The doctor said that it was okay ttc. My periods are  very irregular, they are anywhere from 35 days to skipping a couple of months. If nothing happens this month then he said he wanted to start me on Letrazole to help me ovulate. I have never heard of Letrazole, has anyone ever taken it? Why would he not suggest Clomid?

babysomeday is correct. Femara (letrazole) is out of your system long before conception takes place, and does not have the negative effect on the endometrium that Clomid has.

They first had articles out there saying Letrozol was bad and can harm the baby, however, since then they have retracted those statements. It is only harmful when taken during pregnancy, when you take it days 3-7 it it is out of your system before you conceive. It has a life span of only 2 days, so by day 9 it is out. My doctor said that clomid makes your lining too thin, which will keep you from carrying a baby, so she switched me to letrozol (Femara) Clomid normally makes you have more follicles where letrozol has less. Here are two really good sites that compare the two, on here, they say that the lining is the same with both kinds, also it says that miscarriage rates are higher with clomid hope these are helpful :)

the other site makes you become a memeber to read the article so I am just going to paste the info

I just had a m/c on feb 3rd.  I too was given the choice of clomid or femara.  I like clomid since it has been used for a longer time but I think I will actually go with the femara.  It doesn't thin the uterine linine, has a very short half life, has fewer side effects and has less of a chance of multiples (which is very impt if you have pcos).  It IS a treatment for breast cancer (blocks estrogen or the receptor - I can't remember which - but clomid pretty much does the same thing)and they realized it could be a fertility drug because all these women being treated for breat cancer were getting pregnant (that's what my RE said).  It is off label use for fertility but a paper came out in November 2006 which compared 911 births using either letrozole or clomid and they saw no difference in congential defects between the two (actual data showed femara had fewer defects and higher pregnancy rates but it was not statistically significant). I know a lady who went through two IVF's before they realized the clomid had thinned her lining and she had no pregnancies so that makes me want to stay away from it.  Overall, both are effective and have their own benefits and you should be fine either way.

My doc prescribed letrazole too though she gave me an option between letrazole and clomid.Letrazole helps u ovulate too but i read somewhere that its primarily a drug to treat breast cancer. It is illegaly used as a fertility pill in some countries.Having read that i preferred clomid over letrazole. However some women do take letrazole too and conceive while on it.It is also much more expensive than clomid.Hope this helps.
