My first IUI and I have some questions!

If I am not successful this month with preg, my RE would like to do IUI next month.  I am fortunate that my doctor is very proactive and after finding out my hubby isn't the issue here (they tested him first, I have three children from a previous marriage, he has none...well, besides his step-children!) he started me on 50 mg of Clomid which I started on CD 3-7 and on day 7 had the HSG test. (Yikes, that sucked!)  HSG test came back ok, so on day 12 I had an ultrasound that showed two "good sized" (as the lady put it) follicles.  They told me to do my injection of Novarel on Sunday evening and try on Monday and Tuesday to conceive.  She said, as an example, that if I take the injection at 8:00 pm on Sunday that I would ovulate on Tuesday in the afternoon.  Now I am 25 DPO and actually had quite a bit of fatigue this week with some nasuea, some cramping on day 20 and 21 with some back pain and then that ceased.  I had some breast tenderness along with that and still have that.  No nipple (I hate that word!) pain as I remember from my last baby though!  That was painful!  I took a test today (was told not to until the 11th which is 14 DPO) and it was negative :(  I know it could be wrong, but I have been getting negatives for nine months!  I also understand that these symptoms are the same as you get before your cycle.  Although, I never get cramping until the day of my cycle.

I guess what I need to know is...well, anything you have to contribute!  More than anything though, the success rate of IUI would be good if anyone out there had an easy go of it!  Oh, and by the way, my first three children were all not planned....and I am 32....today as a matter of fact!
Thank you in advance for all your support!

I didn't thank you for the info on IUI.  I just want to be prepared......thanks so much!  And thank god it isn't like the HSG.....that was worse than child birth.  They could have at least given me valium or something!  What the heck!

We have been trying for nine months...I am so ticked right now, I typed a whole long comment and it erased!  ARRGHH!!  Anyway, I am hoping it will be quick.  I cheated and tested yesterday....negative....but hoping it is a false negative.  I have a friend who is four months along and tested two days before her cycle and she tested negative.  Well, she tested two days after she was late and it was positive....so I am still holding out hope!  I ovulated two weeks from March 11 so I guess implantation may not have happened early enough to have enough HcG (is that it?) to show up.  Keeping my fingers crossed!  And yes Jenny, I have an 11, 9 and a half and almost 6.....so I am busy with soccer, homework and just having fun with them.  My husband, who is not a biological father.....and I are pumped to have one of our own.  We have such an awesome family and can't wait....just can't believe we are going through all this!  Oh well, what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger!  Hang in there girls!

IUI success rate is slightly higher than au natural.  Typically it takes 3 - 4 IUI's for success.  Since you have 3 children it should be fairly quick for you, it doesn't seem that you have any previous trouble with ttc.  How long have you and dh been ttc?

Wow you've got your hands full with 3 kids lol. I wish you good luck making number 4. Anyways seems to me that you are looking for advice on IUI? I did 2 cycles of IUI, one with clomid 5omg. just like you. IUI for me 2x was not successful however I've not had any other children so you may just have better luck.

The proceedure for IUI is NOTHING like HSG so don't worry, its way less uncomfortable, I too thought of dying on the table during HSG lol. It was awful. IUI feels kinda like a pap. You can get some cramping afterwards like normal menstural cramping but that is about it, you get in, get it done, go home and chill out or you can even go back to work. For me the clomid was the worst part, I had some unpleasant side effects....hot flashes etc. But other than that all was ok:) I am a wuss when it comes to pain too hahaaa.

Anyways I think you will be fine....good luck hope it all works out for you I will keep my fingers crossed!
