Newbie question

So this is actually our first month of seeing an RE so many of my questions may see simple.  I apologize in advance.

*I have been having a lot of lower back discomfort.  Can I take ibuprofen or should I just wait it out?  I am hoping it is my body's way of saying it is trying to ovulate.

*My appetite is all kind of weird right now.  I know I am not pregnant but was wondering if maybe people feel this way after taking Clomid?

* I am cd15 with an ultrasound tomorrow to see if my follies got big enough for the Ovidrel shot.  Any idea when I might ovulate (if I do) after the shot?

Thanks!

My OBGYN and RE told me that any type of anti inflamatory such as Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and prescription ones like Celebrex and Mobic can keep you from ovulating. If doing IVF, it can also affect you. During the retrieval they may be able to get many follicles out but may be unable to get eggs out of them. Talk to your RE if you need pain medication. I suffer from terrible back and leg pain due to herniated disc and i am in hell now because i am in the middle of an IVF cycle (to freeze embyos for after my upcoming back surgery) but have stopped my anti inflammatory. Would hate to go through the expense and discomfort of IVF and not get any eggs!

Hey midadivson, good luck ahead. Yes agree that only tylenol is the response from any RE office.

I did call my RE and they said no ibuprofen.  They said it can mess with ovulation.  Only tylenol for this girl!

Welcome to the forum! Most women ovulate about 36 hours after the trigger shot (with a range of 24-48). As for your appetite, I'm not sure if that is a side effect of clomid or not. I never noticed that myself, but everyone's different, and clomid does have a lot of weird side effects.

I wouldn't think ibuprofen would be an issue. They don't recommend taking it during pregnancy, but you haven't ovulated yet, so I think that would be fine. You could always call the nurse's line at your RE's office and ask, though. And just FYI, when you do get pregnant, they generally recommend that you only use acetaminophen (Tylenol), if needed.

Best of luck this month!
