Ovarian Cyst

Hi, I had a baby boy in sep 08 by a caesearean section. During the operation my gynaecologist found left ovarian cyst of size 6x5.5x2 cms. Doctor discussed this with my husband(who is a doctor as well) was present at the time of the operation. She removed my ovary and sent for histopath. Later it was found that it was a benign cystic teratoma, on opening, the cyst thick sebaceous material with tuff of hair was seen. My concern are:
1. Will i get pregnant easily for my second child?
2. Is my other ovary in danger of getting a cyst as well? So for that reason its safer that I should get pregnant right away?

Maria

I don't think PCOS and ovarian cysts are the same thing here. Those are really important questions that you have, and you need to be asking your doctor about them. Good luck!

I'm really not sure about cystic teratoma. I do have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome so I do have cysts and metformin actually helps quite a lot in keeping them well, well, well, under control. But cystic teratoma I don't know about. If it's similar then maybe something like Metformin (i.e. Fortamet, Glucophage) would help. All in all I would ask my OB/GYN to refer me to a fertility specialist and I would have him/her address these concerns about a possible infertility situation. If it turns out you are in danger but aren't ready to have another baby right away then maybe you could check into egg retrieval and freezing for future use. I don't know, these are just thoughts. Obviously, I'm not a doctor but I do believe that if I were in your situation I would seek out a specialist in that area. Your husband might even know of someone who might be good, him being a doctor. If not, then your OB/GYN would probably know of a good fertility specialist who would be able to help you out. Good Luck!!!!!
