I think they don't want us to know if they mis-timed it and that's why they don't do an ultrasound right before. The last time I had an iui done, I told the dr my cycle was 25 days and I ovulate around day 12--but he scheduled my iui for day 15. I had cramping and egg-white cervical mucus on day 13 so I called and he had me come in to do the iui on day 14--which was too late. They try to tell you it's controlled, but the fact is bodies react differently. And of course they don't want to tell a women who has been injecting herself for 8 days and paid thousands of dollars that they missed the window.
I took my Ovidrel shot at noon yesterday and had my IUI today at 1pm. The doctor said I should ovulate by tonight. I haven't been using OPK's though.
This is my third cycle of trying femara+ trigger shot. I am scheduled to take ovidrel tonight around 7-9pm. Then advised to have IC tomorrow and day after. How do I know when is the best time for IC, becasue ovulation happens from 24-36 hrs after the shot? I have never used OPK. Does it help? Any suggestions as for the brand of the kit?
True, But if they do an US before an IUI (same app.) at least they/you would know if its too late & O has already happened. To me it makes sense. It's not as if they're doing you any favors, they charge $$ for each US. If you're scheduled for 2 IUI's maybe just on the first one, & not the 2nd one.
I didn't do an IUI. But I had my trigger last Sat (july 4th!) @ 11:00 am, was told to NOT have intercourse the night before, or that night, but to have intercourse Sunday, & Monday....that should do it. Well, luckily we did Thursday @ midnight, Sunday around noon again Sunday late & monday night. (wish we did it on Friday night too, just to be safe) I had VERY bad O pain Sunday from 11:00 am-8:00 pm......don't know if that was pre-O or actually O???
My point is, had I done my first IUI Monday I'm pretty certain that would have been too late. I know you can get prego after the egg/eggs are released, but that has to be perfect timing. Didn't quite get why they said to BD only those 2 days???? We've not gotten my hubbys sperm count done, but I've been pregnant 6 times, & have never had to "try" except for twice this year......My clock is ticking, thats why we/I chose to do injectibles.
I wonder if they consider the US before IUI kind of pointless... I mean if they continue with the trigger and all then I guess the follicles have grown enough, so there's nothing else to look for there. And from what I've read it is extremely rare not to ovulate after the trigger shot, so they assume you will. I guess that may be a question to ask next time I see my doctor or nurse :)
Just wondering, why do you think RE's don't typically do an US BEFORE an IUI???? Do you think it's in case they missed timed it? Doesn't it seem like it would be worth it? Even if you have to pay a little extra.......If I ever do an IUI I will insist it before...I'm kinda a pain in their booty's at times! LOL But hey, it's my/our bodies right?!?!?!?
Glad it went well! Yeah the whole IUI process it not very natural! LOL :)
But your cramping is exactly what I get. First the more sharp pains that normally lasts for about 3 hours or so, (natural cycles) but not bad at all, then later mild/dull achy for the next few hours, almost like AF is coming.
My 14DPO is July 20th, but I won't bother even going to get b/w if I get an- (to save $) cuz I know a HPT will be + at least the day before. I'm hoping that I will get a + a week from today! I am testing daily, or every other to see if & when the HCG is out.....hopefully my lines will start getting darker in the next few days!
Good luck & keep us posted!
BTW, do you know how many mature follies you had?
Got back from the clinic after my IUI. Everything went fine, I guess. The whole process is kind of anticlimactic :) And no, they did not do an ultrasound before the IUI; I was wondering that myself too. My husband's semen was "excellent" as the doctor said, so at least that's good. The cramping is definitely passing, but I can still feel some mild twinges. I scheduled my pregnancy test for July 24th, and I guess now it's just the waiting game. I'll probably be over-analyzing my symptoms in the next two weeks!
You have your IUI is any hour now right? & your cramping is most likely your follies getting HUGE, & it basically is stretching out your tiny ovaries! Sometimes its an indication of actual O, but I think most of the time its the growing follies right before O happens. For me, this was my first med. cycle, & it was the most painful O I have ever had. Although I don't remember a cycle in my adult life that I couldn't feel O. But I know that is not very typical.
Good luck today :0)
Keep us posted!
PS when you get an IUI done, do they do an US first to make sure you haven't O'd yet?
I've never ovulated before in my life, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to feel, but I have been cramping since I took the trigger shot. I'm hoping this is a good sign!
I got my trigger shot last Saturday @ 11:00 am, I took my last OPK test @ 5:00Pm & it turned dark the second I looked at it. Which makes sense cuz I was expecting to ovulate 24-36 hours anyway.
But the think w/OPK's is that the best time to test is after 4:00 pm & before 8:00 & hold your pee for at least 3 hours. Testing in the AM won't give you an accurate result.
Your window of fertile days are a few days pre ovulation anyway, so I'm sure your fine. Unless you BD or IUI AFTER ovulation is confirmed. Plus you can usually tell when your about to, or are ovulating.....do you get any cramping/stabbing feelings in either ovary @ ovulation? For me thats how I know!!! I missed 2 cycles of a trigger (not meds cycle) cuz my RE had me come in CD12 assuming cuz I have regular periods, 28 days apart that I O on CD14, & since my last miscarriage in Feb/ I don't. I O on CD12 & I told him, but of course what do I know anyway, right!!!!! LOL
Good luck!!!
I'm in exactly the same situation... Took my Ovidrel shot on Thursday at 7pm and have my IUI scheduled on Saturday (tomorrow) at noon. I just took an OPK out of curiosity (it's Friday 11pm) and it was negative. I am so disappointed, but, at the same time, hope that it's wrong b/c my ovulation was induced? Maybe the med are causing a false negative. I can only hope... otherwise, I'm wasting my time tomorrow... Good luck!
I have used the ovidrel shot on two prior IUI's, first one in July 08 was a BFP that MC at 11 weeks, last one in June was BFN - but i did not show a surge on that one- cannot recall on the one in 08
The timing of your IUI seems to depend on your Doctor, mine likes me to come in about 18 hours after my shot, but it can vary and i think even states this on the box that it can help trigger ovulation in 24- 72 hours.
Did you have an ultrasound before your shot to monitor the size of your follicles, as my shot is times off that and endometrium lining.
