Hi. I'm not sure this is the right place for this question, but I'm sort of desperate. I've been experiencing hot flashes, hair loss, dry eyes, and irregular periods for about eight months. I'm only twenty-four, so these symptoms have been worrying me quite a bit. I visited my doctor in June, and he ordered a thyroid test. My results were completely normal. I shrugged everything off to stress and went on with my life. Unfortunately, the hot flashes became worse. I went to my doctor again two months ago, and he had my FSH, LH, estradiol, and progesterone levels tested, as he said there was a small chance that I could be experiencing premature ovarian failure. He said the results were normal. I had all the tests done again last month (including thyroid), and again, I was told everything was still normal.
My doctor put me on birth control (Tri-Sprintec) this month in hopes that my symptoms would level out. It helped for about two weeks, but now everything's acting up again. I've been having hot flashes like crazy, and my eyes are very dry. I've done some research, and apparently my levels (6.8 FSH and 52 estradiol) are not in menopausal range, but are a bit unusual for someone my age. How likely is it that I'm in the early stages of premature ovarian failure? I have a family history of hyperthyroidism, so I'm holding out hope that it's that instead. :( I have an appointment with an endocrinologist in February, but I could really use some information now.
Thanks for your time.
