Prenate Elite prenatal vitamins...

Is there anyone else on here that takes this prenatal vitamin?   I am not really a big fan of trying to open the foil pouch everday.  I'm kind of thinking of opening them all and storing them together but I'm assuming they are individually sealed for a reason???  I just can't find anything on the packaging indicating they need to be stored in the foil pouch until consumed.

I am TTc and I took Pregnacare last month and now I am taking Materna. The Pregnacare is the same individual wrapper, but it wasn't w problem/annoying for me. I also took (stop now because I have ovulated) Healthlife: evening primrose oil 1000mg 3 times a day and it is good, it really helped with my cervical mucus.

A lot of women during pregnancy experience a pregnancy symptom known as morning sickness.
The unpleasant episodes of nausea and vomiting makes it one of pregnancy's dreaded symptoms.
When pregnant, eat small frequent meals daily, and eat foods that are rich in carbohydrates
and protein; along with pregnancy nausea remedies,
it can  effectively reduce morning sickness.

To the answer the question of the foil packaging of Prenate Elite. My physician gave me a free trail of Prenate Elite because I was allergic to OB Complete with DHA. The bottle of Prenate Elite came directly from the manufacturer & it was not in foil packaging. The samples they send to physicians comes in a bottle of 5 pills that isn't in foil. So the foil is not nessecary. Before you make any alterations to your prescibed medicine always check with your doctor. Hope this helps.

I just found out last week that I am 2 months pregnant. I was not having any symptoms at all. Then I started taking Prenate Eliet at night before bed. I was waking up with a funny taste in my mouth, and feeling queezy. The one day I forgot to take my pill I felt wonderful again. So, I decided to try and have it in the morning with food in my stomach. I feel a little better but not like my old self, and still have the funny taste. I also noticed that my bowel movements have turned a greenish color. Does anyone else have this problem?

My doctor prescribed prenate dha, but i noticed it has no vitamin A.

Does anyone know why this is? If you are taking Prenate DHA do you need to add a beta carotene supplement?

I have just started the Prenate Elite and I find that if you poke your nail through the side of the outer wrapper around the pill and slit it open the pill will pop right out. There is NO need to peel away the outerlayer first then have to pop the foil. Press your nail into the side of the outer wrapper around the pill and use it like a razor - WORKS GREAT!!
Also There is a very good reason for the packaging since Vitamin poising from overdosing in small children is a real hazard!!  Wouldn't want there to even be a chance of that so they baby proof the packaging !

I have been taking these Prenate Elite pills for awhile, and what i did is started to take a weeks worth of the pills and put them in the weekly dosage container.  That way i at least have a week without the stress of opening the package. It is also good to know that i am not the only one out there whose is having problems with these packages. And as for the taste that you get i have not noticed it, b/c i take them before i go to bed.

Hi!  I also take Prenate Elite and i have ALL of the same complaints you guys do!  I do find that if i take the vitamin on a full stomache, the funky taste eventually goes away.  I do HATE the burping though.
I was given 4 different types of samples and i liked this one the best.  It seems to offer a variety and larger dosage amount than the other ones.
Good luck to everyone!

Hi there!  I am also taking Prenate Elite and I am curious as to why this is prescribed vs the over-the-counter prenatal vitamins that I was told to take with my first pregnancy.  This is a $40/month prescription for our family, which we can manage, but of course the more money we can save, the better!  I am overweight and also 35 years old - so I was thinking maybe that is why they were prescribed?

Also, someone mentioned above in Sept 2007 about a nasty taste in their mouth.... YES!  These meds make me burp and the taste is so nasty and no amount of food, mouthwash, mints, etc will get rid of it.  I now take the vitamins at night before bed so I don't have to endure that taste and it seems like my tummy doesn't get as upset at night.

Hi all, I'm on these pills too, and i get mild cramping and it lasts all through the day. do any of you guys experienced the same while taking these pills. i heard that the iron content in this vitamin tablet is high compared to other prenatal vitamins and so may cause abdominal pain or cramping.. not sure though.

Hi all, I'm taking these too, and have found that all you have to do is peel the white plastic away, starting from one of the two corners where there is a slit (on the end that says "peel & push").  Once the white plastic part is peeled away it is easy to push the vitamin up through the remaining foil with your thumb.

Just adding to NewMommy82's reference.  I also work in a pharmacy and that is called unit dose.  Like she said they just come that way.  I wonder if the additional iron content has any part of their packaging.  For a long time iron tabs had to come in unit dose as it was the #1 thing children overdosed on.  Maybe they are covering their rears?!

Hi, I am also taking Prenate Elite and I currently work in a Pharmacy as well at a local Hospital. The reason these little buggers are in individual foil wrappers is because this is just how they come. This is the only way the manufacturer supplies them. Putting them in a vial or bottle all together is perfectly fine. This is what I do. I have talked to several Pharmacist about this issue and they have look up and actually called they Manufacturer and was never given a reason on why they are individually wrapped other than for Unit Dose purposes. Some doctors offices give out samples and this is the easiest way to provide samples of this medication. So to make life easy...when you get your next Prescription, open all the tablets up at once, dump them in a bottle and make life simpler. :) It is perfectly fine to combine the tablets together in one bottle! :) Plus combining them will make you less moody during your pregnancy when you don't have to worry about that silly foil wrapper! :)   God Bless

I take those too - I got the hang of it after a while, but DH had to open them for me the first few weeks!  I think they're making an easier to open foil pkg since I just got a new refill and different packaging!  I love these vitamins since they have an added stool softener so you don't get backed up from all that iron!

I am also on Prenate Elite, they package is the most annoying thing. It is difficult to open and always requires scissors. I would love to be able to open them all and dump them into a bottle or even a zip lock bag. So it sure would be nice to have a difinitive answer, let us know what the pharmacist says.

You totally and completely read my mind.  I thought the same thing and was going to open them all, but my husband talked me out of it.  I just dont feel like going through the trouble every morning to open them.  I also have a question.  After you take your vitamin, do you taste it through out the day?  It seems like I take one on an empty stomach like advised and i have a nasty taste in my mouth for the rest of the day.  I try to eat things to get the taste out of my mouth and it goes nowhere.  its usually late evenings when i notice that i dont really taste it anymore.

I am taking prnate elite, and about 6 months ago one of the pharmacist stuffed the foil packets into a large perscription bottle.  I thought they were unwrapped already at first, but no such luck.  I don't know if there is a reason, but I took my scissors and cut along the sides making sure I hit the pill pocket of each pill.  I pealed back all the foil and then dumped them all into the pill bottle.  I have kept that bottle and no matter if they give me the bottle or just the pills in a baggie, I can cut them all open for 30 days of foil freedom!!  I have not noticed any difference in it.  If you request this pill bottle the next time you go to the pharmacist, they will tell you if it's not safe.

I am on prenate elite too.  The foil wrapper is annoying, and I have no idea why they are like that, but like you I always assumed there was a reason for it.

hi- i am taking a few different types of recommended prenatal vitamins and they usually stipulate, i wouldve thought, if u have to take/ store them separately? What are you taking I am on (daily) folate, omega 3, vitamin C, chromium, zinc and a (twice daily) fruit/juice/grain concentrate. I also take Tribulus Day 1-14 and Vitex Day 14-28. Ive also heard Evening Primrose is good? Have you heard anything about its benifits? Are you on all different ones like this or have you come across a pre- packaged prenatal vitamin
? Please share if you have it takes me about 15 mins a day to pop these lil buggers...    :)
Are you in West Australia also?
