Provera and Metformin, trying to get pregnant

Hello,

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant with our first baby. I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple of weeks ago.
My OBGYN put me on Metformin and 10 days of Provera. I started taking both together - I am on my last pill of Provera, and now taking 1000 mg of Metformin (increased from 500 mg the first week).

I know Provera should induce my period, but does this mean that I am ovulating as I'm taking metformin? Or does my next "natural" period while I am on Metformin mean that I am ovulating.

My husband and I are TTC and I don't know when the best time is to "try".

Thanks!

Thank you so much for replying, that's what I had assumed, but I'm so anxious! Just wanted to double check! Thanks for taking the time and explain that so well.

It would be your next period that indicates that you're ovulating (not the first one coming up, but the second one). This first period is only brought on by the provera, which will increase your progesterone levels and trick your brain into starting a new cycle. It then depends on how your body responds to the meds whether or not you will ovulate next month. Since I'm not that familiar with PCOS and metformin myself, 'm not sure how long it normally takes before it starts working. Once your cycles become more regular, though, you should be able to better pinpoint your fertile days and when to take ovulation tests if you decide to use those. But until then, if you happen to notice stretchy, clear cervical mucus (eggwhite looking), chances are you're getting close to ovulation, which means it's a good time to start trying! Best of luck!
