Uterus Septum

I have a large Uterus Septum that extends all the way down to my cervix. I don't think my doctor wants to remove it untill the day I say I want to have kids. I want one next year, but i want the surgery now since I have a job and health insurance. Is it because im not married yet? He was suppose to counsel me about the Septum and the risk of premature labor and never really talk to me about it. He said most women can have kids with it. He was shocked that my other doctor found it, before i was married and was trying to have kids. It was found because I had a lot of pain in my pelvis and received an ultrasound and found out more on an MRI. Wish I had more info from the doctor. I would be consider High Risk Pregnancy with a large septum and even more risk with Hashimoto's Disease (Hypothyroidism) am i supose to have misscarrages and premature deaths with my child before they consider surgery?

Oh my goodness your doctor should be smacked.  I was not aware of my septum until I was attempting to deliver my first child.  I had to have an emergency cesarian and surgery for removal.  I had terrible cramping during my periods before this, which I found out a few of those worse times could have been miscarriages due to the egg attaching to the septum instead of my uteran wall. Whether you are married or not should not have anything to do with your doctors decision.  Get it removed well before you plan to have children so your body has plenty of time to heal.  I was told to wait over a year to have another child so my uterus did not rupture.  My first child is 2 1/2 and I'm about 9 weeks along, and hoping for teh best.  What you should remember is what if you accidently get pregnant? That wall can affect your babies growth and position and will cause you to have a cesarian and a uteran septum removal surgery all at once which lengthens healing time.  Get a different doctor.

I want to tell you about my experience with the sub-septum. I was at the age of 31 when I lost my baby in the 6th month. A year after, a wise doctor conected it to the sub-septum existence and nobody else before ever noticed it let alone paid any particular attention. I was devistaded and angry, and I still am and I will see further down why. Anyway, my sub-septum was very small, not even extending significantly to be visible on ultrasound, however I did the surgery and it went very smooth. I hope I am not too late with my answer to you, as I just joined this forum, but I wanted to strongly advice zou to do the HSC and remove the sebtum. It will do you no good and better loose it earlier, before you start planning your pregancy. There is no 'it is still early' reply for this sort of thing. It is a mechanical barrier and you should remove it. It is a benign intervention and a good surgeon will do it easily. you will have one worry less, trust me:) Sometimes it does not bother you or the baby, depending on the position and the size, however, this is very relative and you should not take that risk.
So I will just finish my story. I can not get pregnant again and it has been 3 years and I am 34 now. My hormon values are disaster and I have a very poor ovarian reserve.

Suma sumarum: DO NOT WAIT. Solve this, it is nothing to worry about. Start doing things one by one.

You must thank the Lord that you could carry your baby through to week 32.I also have a miscarriage 4 years ago I was 24 weeks and my Doctor found out I have a septum.I'm going for the resection now cause I really want kids.I hope everything goes well and that I will be able to hold my own kids soon....Good Luck to those going through this don't give up remember God has a reason for everything .

I had a very large uterine septum that was discovered when I was in my early 20s. My gyno thought she felt what could be a cyst and when checked it turned out there was no cyst but a septum. I was sent to a fertility specialist who confirmed the size of the septum and told me not to have any surgical procedures to remove it unless I had problems conceiving. At the time, I wasn't interested in having kids so no surgery sounded great! Now I am 30. My husband and I had no problems conceiving last year and I had a baby boy in November of last year. However, I was considered high risk because of my septum. I tried to rest and take it easy during my pregnancy, no exercise, etc. I could only feel my son move on the right side of my uterus throughout my pregnancy. My doctor said this was because my septum prevented him from moving to the left side. I had to go to my ob every two weeks to check my cervix to ensure I wasn't at risk for pre-term labor. Even with all that, at 31 weeks I went into labor. I was in the hospital for a week on bedrest. I was on various drugs to try to postpone my labor, but ended up delivering my son by emergency c-section at the start of my 32nd week. My son was breech as a result of the septum. Thankfully he was fine, just a little small at 4 pounds. He was in the NICU for 10 days. Now he's almost a year and has developed fine - you'd never know he was a preemie. I want another child eventually, and after what I went through with my son, I decided to have hysteroscopic resection of my uterus to remove my septum. I had it done a week ago and hopefully I will not have problems conceiving again when I decide to try. My doctor said it was amazing my son made it to 32 weeks since the side of my uterus he was in was the smaller compartment. I hope that with the resection I will be able to carry a baby to term.

I am sorry for this crazy info you've been getting and all the back and forth from the Dr.  Hopefully, you get to have the surgery so that when you are ready for kids, trust me-you can change/make up your  mind from one minute to the next- you'll be ahead of the game.  Good luck to you.
