When did you have your first ultrasound?

Hi all!  I had a 5 day transfer 22  days ago.  Had my 4th beta yesterday which was an 840. My numbers are rising very well, but my RE wants me to go for another beta tomorrow.  I was hoping that I would be called in to have an ultrasound this week, but my nurse said to me last night that there really isn't anything to see until you are 5-6 weeks post transfer.  If you calculate how far along I am from my LMP, tomorrow I will be 6 weeks along. I thought around 6 weeks you would be able to see a sac and a faint heartbeat.  Just wondering when you all had your first u/s.

Ok, had my u/s last evening. I'm only 3+ out from my transfer. RE said he wasn't expecting to see much but wanted to do an u/s to make sure it wasn't ectopic because I was bleeing last week.  Good news is that there is no sign of an ectopic, but he still wasn't happy with my last beta of 1072 on Wednesday since the number should have at least been 1600.  Doing another beta today and another u/s next Thursday. He basically said the sac should have been a little bigger but nothing can really be seen until around week 6 so I still have some time. I'm just worried about my beta number today.  If it doesn't continue to rise enough, then this pregnancy isn't viable.

Thanks ladies! Looks like I'll be waiting another week or so before going in for my 1st u/s.  I have a 5th beta tomorrow.  Don't know when my RE is going to say enough is enough with the blood work. I feel like a total pincushion.  Been working with an RE since January '09 and can't tell you how many blood draws I have had per week since we started.  Too many to count.

Congrats to you & dh! :) I agree with the ladies. After IVF, my first u/s was at 5 weeks & we saw one gestational sac. We saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks (and were surprised w/another sac!) We saw the second heartbeat at 7 weeks. So, it is early & a lot can happen in a week :) Best wishes !!!

I agree with Helen. The heartbeat usually shows up sometime between week 6 and 7, so most REs wait until 7 weeks for the first ultrasound (mine did, too, after my IVF). CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Most ladies have their first u/s around 7 weeks.  You may not see a h/b at 6 weeks since it's still very early.
Good luck and congrats!
