about to have baby

My sis-in-law's due date was last Fri (12), over the weekend she had some spotting and pain. This morning her dr examined her and said she is 3cm only and sent her home. This is her first pg and a boy.A friend at work was at 4cm for 2 days, is that possible? Dr told sil that baby should be here by tomorrow.Just wanted to get feedback on your labor!!! and get some ideas.

My neice was induced yesterday 1-15-07 and 12 hours of contractions she was still at one cem.  She was sent home and will go back in next Monday.  They had to stop giving her potoseum (not sure if spelled right) it kept making baby go into distress.

Keep her in our prayers and good luck to her.

Yep, that is quite possible. I was 10 days past due date and when I should have been induced, they found I was about 2 cm dilated and sent me back home to wait if it would all happen naturally. On the 12th day, my water broke in one big gush. And still I was only 4 cm dilated. It could have been like that forever but obviously it was time to speed things up with some oxytocin then. 14 hours later my 9 pound son was born without vaginal tears, but I can tell you my cervix tore. Despite all efforts, even at the very end, I was only 9 cm dilated and they spoke about pushing the cervix opening over his head to help him come out of that keyhole...Soryy to be so graphic.

Walking should help get labor started also hospitals don't keep you unless you are 4cm any less than that and they send you right home.

Hi there...tell her not to worry. Unless she has labour pains & contractions or her waters break, there is no danger to the baby. Dilation begins early, almost as soon as the baby's head is engaged  and 3cms dilated means labour is coming soon but is not imminent. No point waiting around for hours even days at the hospital, far better she goes home and rests up and prepares herself. If she has no further symptoms and no onset of labour and dilation is stuck at 3cms after 24 hrs, they will probably induce her. Wish her Good Luck!

i havent given birth yet but i read and heard that sometimes dilation takes so long that's why the dr sent your SIL home... how about contractions, does she have some? you can also tell if she's abt to give birth depending on how close her contractions are.... hope this helps
