metformin and Clomid for pregnancy

Well, in March of ' 06 I became pregnant, my doc put me on bc pills for 6 weeks and then told me to ttc and it did work, but I miscarried in May, the doctor said that my progestrone levels were to low, after the miscarriage, dh and I have tried diligently to retrieve pregnancy again, but have had no luck. Doctor did a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and d&c on me 3 weeks ago, the day after surgery i began taking metformin 500mg, one a day, and soon I will start taking clomid 50mg. My question is, how long do you think it should take for me to acheive pregnancy?

I'm 32 yrs old, my husband is 38 yrs old. We have an 11 yr old son, we have always want 2 kids, but my husband was dianosed w/ leukemia in 2011 & was told he'd never be able 2 have kids again. Well he's 100% cured & in May of 2016 he got tested & his sperm is good 2 go. So i started clomid 100mg & on the 3rd round i got pregnant, we were so excited, but sadly in March 21, 2017 at my 12 wk appt we found out the baby's heart stopped beating at almost 9 wks we were heartbroken especially my husband. But our doctor told us he's pretty positive we will concieve again this time, b/c i have PCOS he's putting me on clomid 100 mg & metiform 1000 mg i will be on Metiform though my 13th wk if i concieve this time. Good luck everyone & if u have PCOS ask about taking metiform till ur 13 wks it deceases ur chances of a miscarriage!

Hi all... I have pcos just find out last year. But obgyn did not detect it. I suffered with irregular cycles since 12 I was put on birth control to regulate it. I would bleed for as long as 6 months straight. I never had a problem as far as not havinga cycle. I was put on provera to stop the cycles which was temporary. Obgyn suggest that I go back on birth control but everything I was put on got me sick! All labs come back fine. Now i am 25 and me ,my husband want a child I have to take Clomid to help me ovulate. Dr says I should get pregnant on first cycle of Clomid. Plud I am taking prenatal vitamins. I am not over weight I am 145 5'4. No hair loss or unusual hair. So I guess pcos is different with other people. I wish all of you good luck n blessings.

Hi I am 41 years old. I have a 20 year old son. Everyone is telling me i'm crazy but i want another. My son was from my previous marriage andmy current husband doesn't have any children. In 2003,we lost a baby@26weeks due to pre-eclampsia, and 2years later had a miscarriage.  I have endometriosis and fibroids. We have been ttc since the last loss. I have been on clomid 3x. 2weeks ago had the procedure to check blockage of my tubes. Had none and will go on clomid on my next cycle even though cycle just started 3days ago (on lupron) and I just finished 2 weeks ago. I am just nervous. Have been told to have a hysterectomy due to intense cramps and bleeding, but want a baby so badly.  Hopefully the next couple cycles of clomid with my unblocked tubes will be a success. Sorry for being long...just haven't tallked to anyone about this in so long.  Pray for me and I'll pray for you all.  Also any other suggestions would be welcomed.

God Bless,
Kim

Just curious if you were able to get pregnant. I am 32 turning 33 with several miscarriages. I was finally put on metformin three months ago. I am hopefull but at the same time not. Any info would be helpful. I have been asking for help for years but the doctor's told me that I was "just getting older." (in my twenties)! A doctor finally diagnosed me with PCOS in May of 2012.

Hi, I'm 21 years old and I currently have a 21 month old daughter! Me and my Husband decided we was wanting another child after our daughter turned 1 and have failed to conceive. About 3 months ago I was diagnosed PCOS and was put on Metformin and Clomid, so far nothing, but I have high hopes since my cycles went from every 50 days to every 25 days after 1 month. I'm hoping it wont take much longer, I just want one more child before its to late!

I am 32 about to turn 33 years old, I have PCOS and have been since I was 22 years old. I was told I would never get pregnant and I am happy to say that I have a beautiful 5 year old who was born on Valentines day 2006. My son was concieved i believe just on Metformin. Its been 5 years and I was younger so I dont have a great big memory prior to my sons birth. I am currently on 1000 Mg of Metformin and I am on my 2nd trial of Clomid. Last month I took OPK's and it determined that I was ovulating, when I took a blood test on the 21st day my OB/GYN said I did not ovulate :( I have a abnormal period, I bleed every month just not consective from one month to the next.. SInce I have been on metformin In April my cycle started  04/01/2011 and for May i started 05/02/2011 I was SUPER STOKED! I also remember back in January when I started Taking metformin i started exactly 1 month later. I kind of lapsed metformin  in Feb and March Resumed in APRIL. I feel that it is working I just dont understand how I can have a period every month and not ovulate?? I mean I already have a child, so this is possible for us to have another. I just dont want my little man growing up being the only child, I did and it totally *****! Hopefully God will bless my family again with another baby. We are ready! :) any feed back for Metformin and clomid would be awesome.. Thanks

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago. I already have 2 boys who are 5 and 6 but this was before all my symptoms of PCOS.  We are trying now to have our third child. I was put on 2000 mg of Metformin about 2 years ago for the purpose of helping my symptoms and weight loss. After taking it about 8 months, my periods returned on their own every three months but I was also losing weight and eating healthier; watching my sugar intake. I took a lapse on the Metformin and eventually gained some weight back and lost my periods again. So I'm back on it, 2000 mg and getting ready to take Clomid for the first time. I also have to take Progesterone to have a period. My advise to everyone with a PCOS situation is to look to diet and exercise first, the medicine is wonderful and if you give it time it can work but if you don't change the way you eat and control/limit your sugar intake, you are spinning your wheels. PCOS is basically insulin poisoning of the ovaries. It causes the lining of the ovaries to thicken; therefore, you don't release an egg, your hormones get messed up etc. This is how my doctor explained it to me. I hope this helps and encourages. It can work.

I am new to PCOS as well.  I was just diagnosed on Monday.  After having 5 miscarriages, a 6 month long period (which ended with an emergency D&C), and now having tried for 4 months again with no luck at all, I feel desperate.  The doctors kept telling me that I'm young and that since I've only been trying for 4 months this time, that nothing is wrong.  Finally one listened.
I'm currently on day 57 of my cycle, so the doctor put me on Provera to induce my period.  I'm on day two of the Provera and my stomach is killign me.  Once we get the rest of the test results back next week, the doctor wants to put me on Metformin for 3 months, then (if I'm not pregnant) add clomid for three months after that.  I just hope it all works out okay.  I don't know if I can handle another miscarriage.  It's so hard.

I'm 20 yrs old and was told I have PCOS. I have been trying to have a baby for two years now. The Dr. told me that was the reason I haven't been able to get pg. I just started metformin 500mg and Clomid at the beginning of this month. I see that you all had different results. I am hopefull and wish the best to all of you and would appreciate any advice.

Thank you!

I have been on 1500mg of Metaformin once a day since April for PCOS, and went three rounds with Clomid.  I have had no success with either so the next option is injectables I guess.

Unfortunately, my husband and I have been living in two different states due to my new job relocating us.  Clearly, that has not be conducive for us to move forward, but being on the Metaformin alone has not helped my regularity in anyway.  My last round of Clomid was in June and I have only had my period once since then.  My first month on Clomid, I had 5 cysts in one ovary and 6 in the other.  The second month, I had one very large cyst in one ovary and what they thought was a follicle in the other, turned out not to be.  The last month, again, they thought I had a follicle, so we tried IUI and nothing.

My suggestion, talk about the IUI option as soon as possible to give yourself the best chance during Clomid!

Hi,

I was DX woth PCOS and was put staright onto Metformin, have been on Metformin for 3 months but it has not brought back my periods, so the fertility specialist has put me on provera to induce my period so I can get started straight on Clomid.

The experts say that used in combination there are really good results of pregnancy using both Metformin and Clomid.... But Every case is different. That is one thing that I have had to learn over the course of this 9 months of TTC... It's hard to accept bc you want answers now. But your body will work how it's going to work and there is no getting around that.

I am on 1000mg Metformin a day and will be starting on 100mg of clomid as soon as my cycle begins (which should be in about 7-10 days after stopping provera)
I am also having a procedure done where they inject dye into my cervix on CD12 which will show up any blockages aswell as flush out anything that shouldnt be there.... my doc also says a reprted higher fertility rate in the next 3 months after having the procedure, so Im really excited and nervous to start this journey!

I wish you all luck!

In August 2007 we went to see a RE and was put on metaformin 500mg once a day for a week then up to twice a day. Still not pregnant yet. I'm waiting for AF to show up so I can start my clomid and hcg injection. Good Luck to you!!

I have been on met for 7 months now and nothing, clomid added to the daily pill taking and 3 months ago and the first try we thing i ovulated but it caused a very large painful cyst on right ovary, after cyst finally went down we are on trial for the sencond round of clomid. so far had a little sharp pain on left side about where ovary is on day 13 and doc checked by pelvic exam and found no cyst he thinks i ovulated. a day or two prior to day 13 it hurt to have sex and then burning sensation down there for a few minuted after i talked to doc and he said that ovulation since my body is not used to it can cause all of this. Any ideas or advice??? Wish us luck.
