progesterone supplementation/fetal side effects

Has anyones RE ever discussed possible side effects to the fetus when using progesteron supplementation?  I just read the insert for the gel Crinone and it mentions possible cleft palate and abdominal wall malfunctions. My RE didn't seem to know anything about this.  
What it didn't give in the insert was whether the difference between those taking Crinone and those not taking it was significant.  In other words, were the percentages of birth defects the same in those taking the drug and those not taking it?
Does anyone know?
I'm supposed to start it tonight but now I'm worried.

I talked to another dr in the same practice and she said everyone that does ivf takes it and that given that I've had two miscarriages, I really should take it.
So I did. I think you're right--the benefits outweight the possible risks...

i agree with kahlua ! I talked to me RE and he said  you have the same risk with or with out it when it comes to the side affects and with out the progestrion your chances of sucessfull implataion decreses so I am going to start taking it on Tuesday !

I was worried too..i can only tell u  i have low progesterone and I have a healthy 2 year old from a follistim/1000 prometrium ccle..i was on it for 14 weeks ...i think the benefits outweigh the very tiny chance of something happening..i have had 2 chemicals since and next cycle will be doing oil shots and suppositories..Good luck!
