starting ivf

So I am in the beginning stages waiting for the first day of my cycle to get the ball rolling here..should come around the 9th.  They checked my progesterone level yesterday to make sure that I had ovulated last moth.  They said they were looking for a 3.  I was a 16.3......which they said was really good.  Why is it good??  Everything is so confusing!!

I was on Lurpon, Gonal F and Menopur. 10 retrieved, 9 fertilized, 8 made it to day 5, transferred 2 and froze 5. Now 14w4d pregnant, so yes, definitely a protocol that worked.

Ok it has been awhile.  I did not make it to retrieval last time because I did not stimulate well.  I ended up getting canceled.  So now my lupron has been cut in half and my gonal f is up to 300 units daily and i am adding menopr , 75 units a day.   Anyone have luck with a protocol like this before?

powelll1 - you must be getting ready to start Stims soon.  Have the side effects from the Lupron gotten any better?

This is my 3rd day on Lupron.  Giving the shot is easy as pie still........Side affects:  I have been waking up at 3 am for the last few days and m unable to fall back asleep.  Today I had a really bad headache that started at 1am and is still going on but it is better since taking two tyenol.  I just keep thinking..god please, please bring me a baby.

Congrats on starting the Lupron.  :)  Something about having to give myself a shot everyday (well technically DH gives it to me) makes the time go by much faster than when I was just taking BCP.  I have heard that the progesterone shots hurt too.  My RE has me use Crinone (cream based) twice a day instead of the shot.

This is my first cycle too so I can't offer up a success story....yet!  Hopefully soon though!!  ;)

SSBD!!

Well I started my Lupron today...about the second week of June, I will start the Gonal F.  Has anyone had success with this protocol before.  I am scheduled to do a 3 day transfer.  Sperm is good and they think I am all good except the tubal factor.  The one tube I have left is blocked at the point of ligation, but it is not a hydro so I think we should be all good.  Giving myself the shot was easy as pie.  That progesterone shot is the one that is gonna hurt like hell!!  I cannot even think about that one yet.
  BABY DUST TO ALL!!:)))))))))))

forget about the last part of my previous post...apparantly i can't read that you've already given yourself injections for IUI! haha.

i also wanted to say, i think staying positive is a great thing!!! that's exactly what i'm trying to do. i believe it will definitely help! just stay strong!

I'm on a similar schedule as a few of you as well. I started lupron last Friday, the 7th and start the fsh injections tomorrow, the 12th. we have to use icsi because my husband's count, motility, AND morphology are low.

to powelll1: the shots aren't as bad as you think! I'm terrified of needles and when I gave myself the first shot, I was so relieved that i basically worked myself up over nothing. good luck with everything!

Haha....I know what you mean....my paperwork pretty much covers everything, just in case.  ICSI, Assited Hatching, 3 or 5 day transfer, etc.  :)  But for us the ICSI is a definite because of my DH's morphology.  My first shot is Thursday, same day as your class.  Did they say there were any side effects from the Lupron?

I am also doing ICSI..at least that is what it says on my paperwork :).  I go to training on how to give my self the shots on Thursday.  I don't even care about the pain. I am just ready to get pregnant!!  I have been really positive which I know is a good thing, but I am so afraid I will be devastated if I see a Negative sign.  I strt my shot the 25 th.  Right now I am on bcp.

The initial reason we went to see our RE is that my cycles are extremely irregular.  My husband's semen analysis showed poor morphology too so they reccomended going straight to IUI.  After two failed attempts they wanted to move on to IVF.  The good news (I hope) is that they think the issue is with fertilization, not implantation, and they can fix that with ICSI.

I'll let you know about the shots.  I had to do ovidrel injections for the IUI and the needle is the same size for the lupron and gonal f.  It wasn't that bad but that was only 1 shot as opposed to having to do it for 3 weeks!

I'm also just startivng my first IVF cycle.  I'm almost on the same schedule as you but slightly ahead.  I am just finishing up my first week of bcp and start Lupron on May 13th.  I agree, I was surprised at how involved the process is but whatever it takes is fine with me!

Best of luck to us!

I didn't do birth control, but started lupron after ovulation was confirmed...then the fsh shots once my estrogen levels went all the way down (around when I started my period again). Most people do do birth control, though, since it helps further suppress your ovaries. I'm sure your doctor will give you more info at your next appointment. Good luck and SSBD!!!

Good Luck to you with your cycle.  Do you know what protocol you are starting with? Will you take BCP?  I just started my meds on friday.

It's good, because it means you ovulated last cycle and should be getting your period on time, which also means, you should be able to start your IVF soon! Best of luck with everything! I had my IVF almost exactly a year ago and now have a 4-month old baby girl!
