Clomid without prescription

I have done a lot of research on the drug Clomid and am considering buying off the internet and just trying it for a couple of months without going through the whole drama of going to an infertility doctor.  I am 43 and have been TTC for about 5 months using OPK's, with no luck.  I just started charting my temps to see if I can tell if I am even ovulating.  My periods have become quite irregular over the last year.  This period that I started day before yesterday was 43 days from my previous period.  I did an at home First Response Fertility urine test yesterday, which came up with a positive result (meaning, supposedly FSH level was not too high).  My entire reproductive life up until that time was perfectly regular.  This would be my first child.

Hi Dr. Brown,

I wan to really thank you so much for your response.  I have just done a blood test for FSH and Estrodiol, but don't have the results yet.  The results are being sent to my OB/GYN, I just didn't want to go through the wait nor the expense of doing the whole fertility docotor route because I think they would want to do IVF right away and I don't think I have the stomach or the funds for that.  I want to give myself the best chance of conceiving naturally but with the help of some medication.  If I am not able to conceive without IVF, I think I would take that as a sign that I am just too old and by the time they did all their workups and procedures, I would be more like 44!  I do want a child, but don't want to get too crazy about it.

Thank you again for your response!!  You are a great help to all of us.

Hi!
43 is the new 35!  In other words, at 43 you are at the very tail end of your ability to reproduce with your own eggs. SO if it is important to you to be able to do that--don't waste another minute--get to a Reproductive Endocrinologist.
If you are in the category of people who are just willing to see what will happen, and if you do you do and if you don't you don't.  . . then you could try the Clomid.  Something to consider though, is that it can cause problems, especially in the more "mature" patient.  It can cause ovarian cysts and uterine polyps for example, so it can be nice to be under the care of a good physician who can deal with the issues if they do arise.
One more thing--if your periods have become irregular, it suggests that you may be perimenopausal.  If you were my patient, I would do a cycle day 3 FSH and an ultrasound for antral follicle count.  These tests would give you a ballpark idea of what your chances are with your own eggs.
Good luck!
