Hi!
Hey! I am a doctor too! If you were my patient, I would advise you to consider carefully what are your priorities. There are many options here, including donor sperm which would save you a bundle if you and your partner could feel comfortable with that. I would also encourage you to write down a list of questions for your doc, and go in for a consultation before starting the process. I would ask what the percentages are--his personal ones compared with national success rates. You will also want to consider your partner's fertility--the likelihood that she is going to produce healthy eggs that will be fertilizable is very important too--you don't want to waste your sperm, if they are retrieved. If her fertility is not excellent, adoption is another option.
There are SO many variables and you are correct that they are all very pricey. Go sit down with your doctor (not the nurse) and find out what your percentage chance of taking home a baby is before you give him your credit card info.
Good luck!
