Trying to conceive

I am 36 years old , I have two children and have been trying since 2005 to conceive again. After 3 mcs was diagnosed with Factor 5 Leiden. Doctor also did the HSG test to check for blockages. That was in Feb and have been trying to conceive since, with no luck. OBGYN said that after conception I will need to give myself heparin 2x a day. I am wondering should I be taking a low dose asprin every day while trying to conceive. Each miscarriage seems to get closer to conception and I wonder if there is anything I can do to help?

Hi!
Many people would recommend that you take a baby aspirin (81 mg) daily prior to conception.  If you do conceive, and begin heparin, you should certainly notify your MD that you have been taking the aspirin, and re-evaluate whether to continue or discontinue.
Also, you may wish to have genetic analysis done on the pregnancy products if you miscarry again (I sure hope not!) or on yourself and partner.  It certainly could be that the Factor V is the whole issue, but many people with Factor V conceive and carry naturally too, so there could be more to it.

The other thing that I would do, if you were my patient is either a progesterone level or progesterone supplementation or both if and when you conceive.  It won't hurt anything , and it may help.  Also, you are probably aware that you should never use oral contraceptive for birth control, but I just had to throw that in there!

Good luck!
