Trying to concieve

Hello,

Im trying to get pregnant, but i have very irregular periods..I have went up to four months without having one. Can I still get pregnant with my irregular periods? Do I still ovulate? My mother had the same irregular periods and she got pregnant with all three children after she had missed her period for a few month...so that gives me some hope. If I cant get pregnant what are some things i can do to help me concieve? Thank you!

Hi!
Yes, it is still possible to conceive with irregular periods, it is just more unpredictable when it will happen, and may take longer.
If you were my patient, I would check some basic lab work such as thyroid studies and prolactin levels as well as FSH. Depending upon what these tests showed, I might then prescribe Clomid or Femara to help you ovulate more frequently and speed up the time to conception.  Sometimes Metformin is a good adjunct too.
If you are overweight, losing as little as 10 lb can help too.
Good luck!
