I had similar feelings the first time I did IVF.  The cramps were severe and I went to see the doctor.  He examined my stomach and told me that the cramps are a good sign.  It's a sign that my uterus is stretching.  I did get pregnant during that cycle but miscarried.  I was also taking the progesterone shots (ughhh what a horrible feeling it was) and the estrace. Now during the second cycle, my camps were less severe and I had the same symptoms (tender breasts, fatigue, bloating), but these are all side effects of the progesterone.  I hope that your cramps are a sign of pregnancy, and not side effects of the progesterone.  Let me know what happens, best of luck to you and all the other women out there....

Yes!  mild cramping is very very common following IVF transfer.  You could be feeling any of the following.   Implantation (some women do feel it happening.. others do not)  Mild cramps caused by the uterus stretching to create more space for the new embryo, cramps caused by progestrone injections (if you are doing PIO shots).

Mild cramping can continue through your first trimester.  I have them now.  I'm told it's the uterus getting larger for the baby.

If cramping becomes sharp or severe, or if you have bleeding with them, call your doctor immediately.

hope this helps you.
Good luck to you.. sticky vibes!

Hello, this is my first attempt with IVF after several failed IUI attempts.  It's been a week since the transfer and I've been having mild cramps.  I'm assuming the worst that my period is on it's way.  I have a great doctor and group of nurses who encourage me not to give up hope yet.  I googled cramps after transfer and found this forum.  I'm thankful to hear that some folks have had cramps prior to a positive BT.  I pray that we all are blessed with little one(s) soon.  All the tests and drugs have been difficult but waiting has been the worst.

Has anybody else had cramps and other period symptoms and got a +?
I can't help but feel discouraged because of how lousy I'm feeling.  Thanks for all your guidance and supprot!

hi all,

Is it possible to conduct a home pregnancy test in the wrong manner?  Our transfer was on the 10th of March, and we were instructed to do the test today (24th), the test was negative, but I was so anxious I did it at about 3:00 am and had already gone to the bathroom at about 12:00 pm, would this affect the results?

I can't say whether there's a chance you'll be pregnant or not...
I had many of the same symptoms but was not pregnant.  Sometimes the meds and hormones you're taking have the same effect...the progesterone causes nausea, cramps, and headaches.
The best thing you can do right now is relax, and like PrayForBaby said, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.  The best advice I can give you through these hard times is to have faith, your turn will come. With hard work, persistence, and a good will, you will reach your dream some day.  Set yourself a long term goal...like "i'd like to be pregnant within the next 2 years"...and let it go...
I've signed up for a 3rd round of IVF that will start the second week of May.  I'm going to keep trying until I walk out of that clinic with a baby!
Best of luck with the results this weekend, you'll have to let me know how it goes-

I had cramping after transfer too.  I felt like my period is going to come soon.  And thank God that my test result a few days ago was positive :)  And I am still having cramps.  I would think testing on day 8 will be too soon since hcg took some time to be produced after implantation.  If I were you, I won't do any further tests except the one scheduled on Mar 15 since it is not going to change the result.

Sorry that I can't say whether there is a chance you will be pregnant.  Just sharing my personal experience here.  Different people have different responses.  During my "stressful 2-week wait", my husband and I kept telling ourselves "Hope for the best and prepare for the worst".  Good luck to you!

Hi gigi8,

I don't know if I'll try again...i'm too scared, too scared to get my hopes up. It's almost like, do I want to do that to myself all over again? get better and then get worse? I told my husband that i wanted to try naturally for a while, but he doesn't agree.  He says that I may miss that chance if I don't try, and thatthe next cycle may be the one...the one to give us a little miracle.

We're going in to the clinic today for a re-conference with the doctor.  It'll be interesting, I mean, what can he say?

How are you doing? did you get your results back?
wish you the best of luck...

Hi
We'll this is my final attempt at IVF, but I have my preg test on 2/29 also. Maybe we'll both be lucky. As far as the cramping..if you're checking for your period, from my experience my period has taken 5-7 days after the preg test. So cramping is probably a good sign!!!!! Best of luck.
