25 years old and have just been diagnosed with PCOS

I live in Laos and have been off the pill sine July. I have since had no periods. I flew to Bangkok recently and was diagnosed with PCOS on my only remaining ovary. As an adolescent I had my opposite ovary removed due to a dermoid cyst and the opposite Fallopian tube due to a reason which was unexplained. I now have one ovary with PCOS and no connecting Fallopian tube. On the opposite side I have no ovary but one Fallopian tube however in Bangkok they told me my remaining tube is not healthy. I am due to fly back next Tuesday to see a fertility specialist. They have since given me Primolut-N to induce menstruation. I really want a baby. I want more facts before heading I to Bangkok flying blind about my condition. I want to know. A is it worth going on fertility drugs as my tube and PCOS ovary (which is apparently a severe case) to try and conceive naturally or should I attempt IVF straight away? Any insights would be greatly appreciated as quite frankly, I'm an emotional wreck at the moment. By the way, I'm Australian living here as an expat so I wish I was at home to get advice I trusted, hence any I formation you can give me before my Bangkok visit again would be so helpful. Cheri.

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would advise you to go with IVF. I don't know your whole situation (eg finances, etc) and if IVF is out of range financially, or if it is going to be impossible for you to travel and/or take time out for retrieval and transfer (often up to two weeks) you could certainly try fertility medications.
If we were going to proceed that way, I would want to do an HSG (hysterosalingogram) to evaluate your remaining tube first.  If it is obstructed, you have a clear answer.  If it is patent, then it IS possible for a right tube to "catch" an ovum from a left ovary or vice versa and you might be able to conceive naturally. You must also remember that you will be at risk for ectopic or tubal pregnancy and must rule that out early.

Another advantage of IVF is that if you are blessed with multiple embryos, you can freeze them and go back again for a sister or brother.

Good luck!
