Semen Analysis - diagnosis needed

My wife (30 yrs old) and I (31 yrs old) have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now with no known health issues that will hinder pregnancy.  She’s all clear so far (blood tests, HSG).  I received the results of my semen analysis via fax, but am unable to see the doctor for quite some time.  Please analyze, diagnose, and offer suggestions for next steps (additional testing, keep trying, IUI, etc.).

Volume (ml) = 3.9
Concentrationx10^6/ml = 37
% Motile = 24
Progression = 2
pH = 7.2
Viscosity = Mild
% Norm Morphology = 1
(WHO criteria) 4th Ed.
Round Cells x10^6/ml = 0.8
WBC (x10^6/ml) = NI
Total Motile Sperm x 10^6 = 35

Thank you

Hi,

My husband and I did 5 IUI's and he had almost the same results as your husband d, not a lot of sperm and not very mobile.  We did try the clomid and yes, I produced a lot of eggs but nothing ever happened.  And over time it gets really expensive.  So we took the next step to IVF, and had to put the sperm directly into the egg.  It did work on the first try, thankfully!
I would try IUI at least 3 times and after that, go to IVF if possible.

Hi!
Here is a great site for you to check out:
http://www.ivf-infertility.com/infertility/investigations/male/semen.php
It explains a lot about semen analysis and normal values.

It looks as though you may have problems with motility ( normal = 50% or more ).
And also with normal forms ( normal = 30% or more ).
It looks like your counts are OK as far as I can interpret your results.

Your doctor may recommend Intrauterine insemination--the sperm are collected and concentrated and washed to increase the numbers of normal sperm, and then injected into the uterus directly.

Sometimes clomid is used to improve sperm count too.  Another new test to inquire about is sperm dna fragmentation analysis.

Hope this helps!
