ivf success rates

hi, just found out that following an ovarian cystectomy and adhesions on my fallopian tubes in 2004 that my tubes are to badly damaged to concieve naturally.

Devastated obviously and not really knowing where to go from here. But apparently my ovaries and uterus are healthy.

Im awaiting my consultation for IVF, has anyone had successful IVF in this case as anything I read the percentage of IVF success rates are not good.

Hi,
On our first IVF we paid 15K, 2nd is with donor eggs it was 22K. These figures include all medications. It varies from state to state. Our ins does not cover fertility either so we have paid everything out of pocket. Best of luck if you are thinking about trying it:):)

Dear phoebe3289 -

The success of IVF has actually very little to do with the extent of adhesions around your fallopian tubes, as IVF bypasses the tubes. In fact, when human IVF was invented back in 1978 it was used almost 100% for women with damaged tubes. It was only in later years that other causes of infertility were treated with IVF.

The most important predictor of success in IVF is your age; if you are 35 or younger, chances are excellent. At ages 36-39 chances are intermediate. Age 40 or older the chances of success with IVF drop off.

The only consideration with the fallopian tubes, if IVF is required, is that if the tubes are swollen and filled with fluid (this is called hydrosalpinx) your infertility MD might want to remove them before trying IVF, as the fluid can sometimes wash back into the uterus and decrease the chances of implantation. However, if the tubes are not filled with fluid, this will not be required.
