early menopause in family wooried about my chances of conception

zez
Hiya
I am new to this website and this is the first time I have posted on here.
I have been through a stressful time ttc.
I started ttc near the end of August 07 then for some reason my AF abruptly stopped in all it was absent for nearly 4 months I carried out loads of pregnancy tests and spent a fortune only to keep getting a BFN.
I still continued ttc during that time and I visited my gp and she arranged a blood test to try and determine for reason for my absent AF.
It turned out I have an underactive thyroid and my gp thinks that is what caused my AF to go awol.
She said my tostesterone, and progesterone were okay but did say my fsh was high though and said that was maybe down to the thyroid problem.

I have now been on thyroxine for 6 weeks and my AF decided to show itself again  last month and it should be due again anytime around now so I am waiting to see if it decides to go awol again if it does I will no doubt go through the trauma of doing pregnancy tests and getting  a BFN.

Anyway I am concerned that I won't be able to concieve with regards to my age and having a underactive thyroid I have heard it can make conception difficult.

Early menopause is also in my family between the ages of 38 and 40.
I have just turned 37 so of course I don't have time on my side.
I suppose I am just looking for a bit of support really.

Hi
I have thought that I should maybe not be holding back and that  I may need a referral to a RE.
I am due to have another blood test done on the 7th of January to check my hormones and thyroid again.

I will wait and see what the results show. My doctor when I asked didn't think the  high fsh was down to menopause I am now wondering if the test I had done would have showed if I was or not.

I realise now that I should have asked alot of questions but this is all new to me so I wasn't sure what sort of questions I should have asked at the time.
I am more informed now by reading up on the internet and coming onto forums like this.

I have a load of questions I  will be asking my gp.

Just to say I did my own fsh test a month ago and it showed up negative meaning it wasn't high my AF showed up a couple of days later.
I never thought to ask what it was with the blood test didn't realise at the time that you had to go by a number reading just thought if it is high its high.

I sound a real dope don't I.

I would suggest you seeking a RE as soon as possible. Time is not on your side here because of the family history of early menapause, so I would get aggressive if I was you. An RE would be the best person to help you get pregnant.

My fsh was at 13 when I had just turned 34 years old. I freaked out and thought the world was over. I am happy to say that I just had twins (at the age of 35), so I know that fsh isn't the be all end all.

I wish you luck.
