Need a tubal reversal? can anyone give advice on this surgery and outcome of success???

I an 38 yrs of age I had a tubal ligation 8 years ago after my third child and now my husband and I want another child he does not have any of his own. I am thinking of having the surgery this may. Can anyone tell how your recovery was from this surgery?? pain and were you able to get pregnant right away! with my age I want to make the right choice, invitro is sooo expensive, so I opted for the surgery  though I hate the thought of having to have another surgey =(
just had a partial thyroidectomy 19  days ago. I keep hoping I would be a lucky one and they would just grow back together...=)
If anyone has any special tricks! please share =)
or just some advice if you have had this procedure done. Thank you

I apologize for the delay. I had my surgery there on Dec 18 but not with Dr Berger.  I was there for at least 6 hours.  Then for about a week I was sore.  I was told to wait until my next cycle before I do the BD.  So now me and dh are TTC.  I am doing the BBT and ovulation monitor.  The surgery did not intefer with my cycle; still on track.  I wish you well, Babydust.  Keep me posted on things progess with you.

I am 39, had my surgery done Dec 06.  I went in at 930 and out by 4pm.  It was painful the first week then after that everything wnet back to normal.  DR told me to wait until after my next cycle before I do the BD.  Well, I did what the man said and now I am waiting to see if AF will appear tomorrow.  I have been charting my BBT and watching my CM.  It has been 20 years since I had my first one.  So this is all new to me again and what fun it is.

I am 37 years old and just went through IVF. After a very stressed out month I found out that 3 of the embryos that had been transferred all died. Also I was not able to freeze anything. I still do NOT understand. I had 19 follicles 11 embrys of all Grade 1 quality I still wonder what hapenned. I was very depressed for a few days and finally decided to have my tubal reversal. This was originally my first choice but when I went to an IVF clinic here in Miami they made it sound so simple and that my chaces where so much higher on getting pregnant with IVF. This however was NOT the case. The treatment was exhausting to me and I hope I dont have to do it again. My surgery will be in March and I am really looking forward to it. My surgery was done 14 years ago and I can only hope that this works out. Only 1cm was cut therefore according to my DR there is a lot of tube left. I will be travelling to North Carolina to see Dr. Berger (heard hes the leader doing this) with my daughter and coming home to practice as soon as I can.
To anyone that had this surgery does it hurt as much as the tying did? I remember that being very painful. Also has anyone gotten pregnant right after the surgery?

Any feedback is welcomed

Thank you and Baby dust to us all!

I had the reversal in 1991.  When my tubes were tied they not only tied them they cut a section out of each tube and then burned it.  So the reversal was a major deal for me.  I looked like I'd had a C-Section.  It took several weeks to recover. One tube was still blocked after the surgery because it was so damaged. We tried for about a year with no luck so we started with IVF.  We went thru 5 IVF cycles also with no luck and spending over $60,000.  We finally just give up. I also had Endometriosis which was causing alot of the problems.  I went in for surgery and they had to remove my left tube and ovary because they were covered by the endo. that just happen to be the blocked tube.  But after that we really figured we would never concieve.  Three months later I was pregnent.  The doctor said that by removing the ovary on the blocked side that allowed my to ovulate on the good side every month rather than every other month.  It didn't really happen as soon as  we wanted it to, because by now I was 38.  Everything went fine and I was pregnent again at age 40.  We now have two beautiful little angels, Landon and Lauren.  I live in Tn and the doctor I used is in Johnson City Tn. He is wonderful, no one else could have ever even got one of my tubes back together they were in such a mess.I know things will probably be much simpler for you.  But don't give up.  Have you thought about just doing IVF?  The success rate is very good now.  I don't know where you live but my doctors web site is very informative on the success rate of IVF and other fertility procedures. His name is Dr. Samual Thatcher and his site is     www.ivf-et.com.  Good luck and I'm sure you will also have a little angel soon.

I had a reversal in June of 06.  The recovery was about 1 week.  Although the day after the surgery I was driving my kids around and up and moving.  So it was not unbearable.  The cost was $5,000.  I did get PG in Nov.  but M/C at 5 weeks in Dec. We had to wait 1 month before we could TTC.. So we started July 15th.  It took about 4 cycles the first time.  Hopefully this time will be sooner (maybe this month).  I had them tied when I was 23, I am 30 now.  So 7 years later we had the procedure.  I live in Fl. Hope that helped a little!

Surgery went great.  Got there @ 8am.  Was home by 5pm.  It was same day procedure.  Very good doc.  I'm 31 and I had my tubes tied when I was 27, so they were tied for 3 1/2 yrs.  It was painful for a good week, especially the first 4 days.  It gradually got better and it was worth it.  Let me know if I can be of more assistance.
