My own body is playing mind games with me.

I know there could be any number of reasons for this but it doesn't make it any easier to wait through.  Since getting off the pill three months ago and again working toward having a child, my cycle has been around 23 days long.  I'm now on day 28 and I'm getting pretty restless.  I took one test after being 2 days late and another today and as you can guess... they were both negative.  I took the EPT digital read-out test that says you can tell 4 days before your missed period but still nothing.  How often does it happen that the test reads wrong because hormone levels are too low?  And how often does a fairly regular cycle go haywire?  I haven't been stressed out or changed my eating habits and again, I know there are any number of reasons this could happen but I'm tired of waiting... and reading "not pregnant" on little plastic sticks.  Mostly, I'm venting as it's hard to find people in my life that understand how I feel but if anyone has any insight into this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the info.  I have bc records that may show exactly how long I've been trying but that's if they check I guess.  Maybe I'm just too paranoid.  AF still hasn't showed but maybe it is just my body getting back to normal.  I start checking my bbt's and opk's again and see what happens.

If I continue to go without AF and the tests keep saying BFN... how long should I wait before seeing someone and what might that mean?

Well for me it was a vaginal exam first, then he sent for for a vaginal ultra sound.  Then discovered I had a complex Ovarian cyst, so I had some blood work done.
I was being "watched" for a few months w/repeat US's to see if there were any changes in my cyst..........which there WAS!  It had grown from a 4.1cm-8cm in 2 moths!
I ended up having lap. surgery & it all turned out fine.  Got pregnant first month after (mc'd 11 weeks)

So what kinds of tests do you have done during your initial fertility check?  I've heard crazy things about long needles being poked into the abdomen and I'm hoping they don't do that anymore.

I would go to the Dr.'s anyways!  Even if you have to exaggerate a bit.  I did!!!  1.5 years ago I went in & told my OB theat we've been trying for a year off n on (not NOT trying) & really it had only been a few months.   I got checked out & had a huge cyst that was a BIG problem for me at the time & I didn't even know it!

I'm trying to have my first child... I've just been through this before and either gave up or my situation changed so that it would be best if I didn't keep trying.  I've tried once for three years (though it's possible my husband at the time was sterile), another time for 7 months and so far this time for 4 months.  That was really helpful information though.  My luteal phase was an average of 14 days, which I thought was enough.

I was charting bbt and using a ferning test for the first two months and it went well.  The third month however, my temps were inconclusive and I kept getting partial ferns on random days.  I was starting to stress out over the whole thing and gave up on charting bbt's and OPK's.  My stress generally manifests into physical symptoms so I try not to do anything that might stress me out enough to effect fertility.  I'm guessing if I ovulated at my regular time I'm around 15 DPO but I that's a guess.

Regarding the bloodwork... I didn't think I could start checking into fertility issues until I had tried for over a year.  I didn't think my previous tries counted as it was with a different man and happened around 8 years ago.  Am I wrong in this?

Well first 23 days is way to short for a cycle so your body must not be back to normal. Do youo know how long your luteal phase is? Birth control really effects fertility and is bad on your body! It causes your body to not ovulate and that can cause problems so you need to get checked and have blood work done. After having a tubal igation then having a tubal reversal I was having 26 day cycles and was to short for a baby to attach. It is called a luteal phase defect and mine was due to low progesterone. It takes a while for the egg to mature then you ovulate and it takes 7-10days for a baby to attach after that. You would not get a positive test before that. Do you know when you ovulated? You should start checking your bbt to make sure you are even ovulating yet. How long were your cycles when you had your other child?
