Before having kids

Hi,

1 - does a male have to take any tests (sperm count, sperm quality etc.) before trying to have kids?

2 - does the male's health effect the baby's health? for example, if the dad has high cholesterol or is overweight (not terribly high or obese) can that put the baby at any risk?

i appreciate your help.

Hi,

The dad doesn't "have" to unless the parents have been trying for awhile.  Then the dad will have a sperm analysis done.  As far as question 2 I've never heard of being overweight, or cholesterol putting a baby at risk.  Now more serious things like HIV, drugs, alcohol and such of course, but not just being over weight or cholesterol.  In the long run the child might have problems with cholesterol, I'm not sure if that's hereditary or not but I don't think those 2 things are anything to worry about, nor should that make someone stop from trying to have a child. :)

Best of luck to you! :)
