Being pregnent and taking metformin

Has anyone taken Metformin and then gotten pregnant?  I was put on 1000mg last month d/t high insulin levels, my level was a 74 and the Dr. said a 10 was good.  I have been ttc for 14 months and she said this could be the problem.  She also said if I get PG while on the metformin that I will have to continue it through the pregnancy even if I don't need it b/c going off it could cause a misscarige.  Does anyone know anything about this?  With my first pregnancy I didn't go to the Dr. till I was around 7 weeks pregnant b/c I didn't find out for a couple weeks, thinking I couldn't be pregnant.  I was told by quite a few people that it didn't really matter if you went till you were 8-12 weeks anyway and that many have early misscariges.  If I get pregnant with this one should I contact my Dr. immediatly??  I already call in and see them atleast once if not twice a month anyway.  I don't want him to think that I am obsessed with Dr. and meds...haha...  What's your opinion?? Thanks

Hello! We have gotten pregnant while taking metformin (we had to do many IUI's and take other medications after learning i had a clotting disorder that was causing us trouble concieving and miscarrying, in addition to PCOS). We are almost 33 weeks pregnant currently, and i have been taking metformin the entire pregnancy- usually they take you off the metformin at around 12 weeks or so.. studies show that continuing the metformin when you have insulin resistance or PCOS does decrease your chances of miscarraiage. however i believe the studies show that coming off at 12 weeks is good, the benefits of it are done with at that time.. I started bleeding at 12 weeks, so we didnt want to "rock the boat" and come off of it since it was our 5th pregnancy (4 mc's) so i've stayed on it the whole time.. I have bad hyperemesis the whole pregnnacy - not sure if its caused by the metformin or not, but either way its SOOO worth it! : )  GOOD LUCK! oh and once you know you're pregnant i'd defintely call them and try to get in sooner - just for peace of mind if nothing else !: )
