Fertility Shots

My husband and I have a 2 year old....have been trying for the second child for almost a year now.  Been talking about getting a fertility shot.  what is the guarantee with the shot?  can it produce more than one baby, like twins and so on?  What are the steps I need to take to do this procedure?

Like BNY said, injectibles are usually given after trying clomid like drugs.  We had to do 7 cycles of clomid with IUI's before moving on to injectibles.  With the injectibles, I gave myself a shot in the stomache everyday for two weeks and went to see the RE for an Ultrasound every day to every other day that was accompinied with blood work each time to determine my dosage for the next day.  Before starting the injectibels, my RE gave us the statistics of multiples as being 1 in 4 with 10% of those multiples being more than twins, usually triplets.  Injections did work for us, but it was hard on my body and really swelled my ovaries.  One was the size of a grapefruit after I ovulated-very uncomfortable.  If you have not tried clomid first or been to an RE I would start there because it works for many.  Good luck to you.

Usually the rule of thumb is...if your under 35 and trying for more than one year to go to your obgyn or an RE for fertility assistance (if your 35 or over six months or more) they will tyipcally do some baseline bloodtests, and an ultrasound.. and have your dh get a semen analysis, to make sure everything is ok there.. typically the first step is oral ovulation stimulation drugs like clomid or femra... if you go through your regular obgyn most of them do not monitor with ultrasound the first couple of months on these drugs.. if still no luck then they will typically do a follicle ultrasuond to make sure your producing follicles and ovulating.. you can then move onto IUI's or injectables with IUI's.. it really varies from individual to individual.. but the injections are typically after a while of trying oral medications! good luck!
