I would bet that they want you to refrain from having sex after retrieval because they are concerned about infection, not because they are concerned you will get pregnant naturally. If she told you not to have sex after transfer, that would be because of the worry that the uterus will contract at a sensitive time, plus the issue of possible infection. But if you went and had sex the night after retrieval, the worst that can happen (besides infection) is that you might (if they didn't get all the eggs) get pregnant naturally and possibly from the IVF too, and have a multiple.
Thanks, ConnieG. I was just confused because my nurse told me to refrain from sex after my retrieval. She didn't tell me why but I read that though all the mature folllicles/eggs should be harvested during retrieval there may be some that are still lagging which can pop out of the ovary after retrieval hence can get you pregnant.
I wanted to see if anyone on this site has other opinion about this. :)
The way I understand it is they take all your eggs out when they retreive them. So there aren't any left for you to try with on your own....
I think it's great that ya'll are still having sex and not just quiting it because you're doing IVF, but at the same time, if you want to try naturally, I think that you will have to take a break from IVF because they take all the eggs....I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong.
