Did anyone have a day 17 negative HPT and have a positive result

Hello,  my husband and I are on our second cycle of IVF (ICSI).  I just took a HPT (against my better judgement) and it came back negative.  Does this mean that there's no way that the IVF worked?  I'm going in for bloodwork on Tuesday, and I'm trying to manage my expectations accordingly.

This entire process is unbelievable emotionally.  This cycle feels so different from my last and I really felt my gut telling me it was going to work this time.

Any insight or experiences you could provide would be so much appreciated!

I went through IVF back in August with a retrieval of 25 eggs, 21 were mature and using ICSI 19 were fertilized. They froze 9 right away and let 10 continue.  I had a day three transfer of 2 - I think a 7 and 6 cell.  I had a LEEP procedure years ago which led to an incomptent cervicx for my previous pregnancies.  I went into labor at 19 weeks with my daughter - she is a vivacious 7 year old now.. cerclage with my son..healthy 5 year old.. but I will say the implantation procedure was painful and took about 40 mins... I was not real happy but it was because my cervix is less than half the length of a normal womans... anyway.. the remaining 8 arrested by day 5.  9/23 BFN.  Started LUPRON again.. some others.. went in for a frozen cycle 3 day transfer of 3 embys (they thawed 5 all 5 survived the freeze leaving me with 4 frozen) - AND the transfer was AWESOME - 10 mg of Valium- I was so relaxed... took 5 mins - no lie!

10dp3dt I took a blood pos/neg test at Family Dr.. Negative.. Devestated... followed up with RE anyway 5 days later.. BFP!  I am now 7weeks 4days... the other 2 eggs arrested before day 5.  I really am happy with the 3 day transfer as none of mine made it to day 5 in the lab...

Lesson learned... it does not matter how many eggs retrieved 25 or 4 - it only takes 1.  Taking a test (home or convincing your family dr to do it) can make it more emotional than it needs to be.  And I think that being relaxed for the most important part of the whole process helped... The valium made a difference....at least for me.

Sorry to be so long winded.. Best of Luck.. Hang in there... once you get your BFP's then you get beta results crazy, ultrasound scan crazy.. But you will all be there soon!!

Hang in there-best advice I can give you is keep yourself busy, REALLY busy.

I just went to the doc's yesterday, and we're going for Round 3 early next year.  This time they're shooting for a Day 3 transfer, with assisted hatching.

Anyone have success with that?

l wish everyone good luck.l have gone through a very tough time with ivf,l was also over stimulated but all went well and the dc retrived 8 embryos.Anyway, one perfect embryo was transfered in me,but failed to implant, the rest were put in freezer and l went back after two months and two more perfect embryos were transfered in me and two more are still in the freezer, the rest didnt survive the freezing process.l am so depressed today since l took a pregnancy test and it was negative.l am so afraid that the other two embryos might not survive and l have to start with the injections again to retrive eggs once more.

I wish you the best of luck.  I spoke with my doc today, and although I wanted to give up, I won't.  Just in case things don't work out for you tomorrow, just remember that they're still figuring you, your body, and the embies out.  They're figuring out the 'cocktail' that is right for your situation.  Please don't misinterpret that to mean that you should give up hope for tomorrow.

It's just something that I remembered as I talked with my doc-he's got another game plan for next time.  Keep the faith, and in touch.

I'm praying for you.

I'm sorry to hear about the BFN. I also took HPT today @ 11dpt3dt and got a negative. Tomorrow I go in for 2nd beta. I went in on 12.01.09 for 1st beta but the clinic doesn't give out results w/ 1st beta. I'm being realistic even though in the back of my mind I'm hoping I get some surprising good news. This was my first and ONLY time going through IVF and the DR used ICSI. I had 4 embies transferred. Other than the dumb OHSS (mild-moderate) I haven't felt a whole lot of anything.

I hope things work out for you if you decide to go for another round of IVF. When one has the resources, why not be tenacious right?

The false positives are a result of the HCG in your system, which depending on your dosage, clears your system in 14 days.  If you do the test before then, you may get the false positive you mentioned above.

I am starting my first IVF..tomorrow is retrival day & transfer prob sun/mon.  I was told NOT TO do a HMP because it will give false positives because of all the meds we are on.  Keep on trying...it will happen.

hi sorry to hear ur bad news, ive just had my 2nd failed icsi cycle and im deverstated, i also started to bleed on day 18 aswell, im hoping to go for my 3rd and final cycle in jan 2010. im going to ask for assisted hatching, because i read that the egg has to hatch before it can implant. people tell me to keep positive, but its so hard when its failed the 2nd time. keep in touch and good luck. just be prepared if its negative so you can be strong and if it hasnt worked discuss assisted hatching for the 3rd cycle
