Help! Several Pos OPK's.. PCOS??

Hello Ladies!

I'm wondering if several positive OPK's in one month means I have PCOS?  I got positive looking OPK's on CD5&6 (test line looked same as control) and then three definite positives on CD10, 11 and 12. This is the first time the test line was actually DARKER than control line on all three days.  I'm on CD13 now and still no temp rise or even the dip before O.  I usually O on CD14 and my patterns are clear cut.  I was hoping it meant pregnancy but HPT's are still negative. Last cycle and even now I have some pregnancy symptoms but AF came so it was a pregnancy in my head only.  The doc did tell me I had a cyst but that it was no big deal and would dissappear on its own.

I even felt O pains the last two days but no temp rise as normal.  I tried searching for PCOS topics on this site but the Search button gave me a headache taking so darn long!

Also, if it is PCOS, is that what Clomid is for? I have a doc appointment this week but of course trying to find out all I can beforehand.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if you'll still check this thread, but I wanted to mention that I might have had something similar.  I don't know if you meant "haywire" because of the OPK results, or because of the BBT... but when I went off BC, I didn't get any cycles for over a year without meds (provera).  Then after a couple unsuccessful cycles of Clomid, "irregular regular" cycles showed up (meaning I got them regularly, but in an irregular pattern).  The same thing happened after my son was born.  After the irregular regular cycles, all of a sudden I would get a whacky BBT chart - either really irradic or flatline and I always knew it was time to see my dr.  I hope your appt is helpful and your dr can help figure out what is going on.

PCOS is diagnosed as "irregular ovulation + elevated testosterone or DHEAS" - so it really shouldn't affect OPK outcomes (not LH or FSH related).  It is possible to have multiple cysts and not ovulate regularly and not tecnically have PCOS (such as in my condition).  Clomid is for women who don't ovulate regularly and have no other infertility issues.  It has helped me get pregnant twice.  Remember that an OPK is only positive when the test line is darker than the control line - not when they are the same.  I had a hard time at first making sure that I knew which line was the control line - it's easy to mix that up.  At your appointment, I would ask your doctor for bloodwork to check all your hormone and insulin levels.  Also, take your BBT charts.  And, give Clomid a try if your dr. agrees.  But I have no idea why you might get several positive OPKs.

So sorry about your miscarriage.  I remember your story and I was praying you would have a happy outcome.  I felt bad enough just getting AF so I can imagine how it feels getting a BFP and then going through that.

But, yeah, my last AF was very short

CD1 spotted
CD2 light/med flow
CD3 light/med till evening when it just stopped suddenly
CD4 No flow all day till afternoon when I got a sudden cramp and bled a little brick red blood one time and then continued to spot lightly till the next day.

I took several HPT's, even one last night and all BFN's.  I don't think I've actually peed sitting on the toilet seat since forever LOL.

I'm waiting to take another OPK to see if that's still positive.  I'm having headaches, nausea, constipation, heartburn and everything. I had to stop the prenatals for a couple of days to see if that's why I had symptoms.  But they're still there.

One question, how were your temps after you got what you thought was AF?

Thanks for the PCOS info.  I definitely need to get my hormones checked because I'm having the whackiest cycle.  But I thought that OPK's were positive if they're as dark as the test line or darker.  I tested today and this time it's just as dark as the test line, but not darker like it was yesterday.  Oh well, if I don't see a temp rise by tomorrow then it'll really be whacky.  I've been BBT charting for a while now and was pretty sure with recognizing my obvious patterns and then things went haywire!!

I will definitely ask for a blood test when I go this week.

Thanks!
