How Long Do You See RE After Success?

I was just wondering.  I know you go to an RE to help you get pregnant. But do they become your regular doctor during your pregnancy? If not, for how long after?  I'm just wondering because I'm not exactly happy with my GYN's TTC knowledge so I'm thinking of leaving. I'm supposed to see an RE soon. Plus, since I would be high-risk if I got pregnant because of my age, wouldn't I need a high-risk doctor?  I keep hearing "specialist" but not sure if that's the same as an RE or a "special" OB/GYN.

In my case, I see my RE until the end of my first trimester.  Then, my RE releases me and my records to the OB/GYN who I have selected to deliver my baby.  It is my understanding that the RE keeps you with them through the first 12 weeks just to ensure no ectopics, m/c, etc., but does not deliver the baby.

I was not happy with my OB/GYN either, so I changed.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Yes, that helps a lot because I was wondering if they kicked you out right after your BFP.  I probably would find a new doc during that 3-month time-frame then.

Thanks!!

That is so funny, because I thought the same thing.  And, since I knew I was going to have to find a new OB/GYN, I got really nervous.  But, turns out, I didn't need to be....
Anyway, good luck to you!

My RE referred me back to my obgyn once we saw the HB at 7 weeks.

I wasn't completely happy with my ob/gyn either, so i asked RE who he recommened.  The up side of that was when i did get pg my RE kept my ob/gyn up to date on my situation, which ended up being ectopic.  RE gave the diagnosis and treated me with methotrexate, but when I had to got to ER for surgery it was the ob/gyn who handled that.  The only down side is, if I ask ob/gyn for second opinion on RE treatment or something he has told me, she isn't going to contradict him.

I was kind of thinking that there would be some kind of connection between the two because they probably refer patients to each other.  I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.  But I will definitely be leaving my GYN if I don't feel comfortable with her anymore.

Thanks for the input ladies!!
