Thanks, everyone!!! I really appreciate your feedback!
Heather :-)
my firs tRE did day 14 and 16 - thats it till 6 week u/s
my next RE does day 9 and 11 and then a week later and then a week later
my next RE does 2 and decides
my next RE does day 12, 14 then 6-8 days later
Then you get people like me who are so freaked out that they do a beta every day for 6 days!!!
But from everything I've read, the norm is 2 with more only being done if there's concern. Clearly from what others are saying, some docs go with 3 but I think 2 is more common.
Congratulations! I had no idea that you were pregnant! I am so happy for you! My RE always does three betas and I get the results of all three.
hi dear my Re also did only 2 B/W ,day 9 & day 12 same as u,& my U/S is on may11th.so i guess if ur number dubbles or more than doubble then they do only 2 B/W & if number fluctuate like if its not doubble then they do B/W again & again to makesure.so dont worry just be happy & take care.we both r so close to our due date.we have eachothers company for our 9months.so did they gave ur duedate???mine is 1/1/2010.takecare.
My re does betas until the number's over 2,000. I had three - day 10, day 13 & day 15 to make sure the numbers were going up properly.
Congrats on your pregnancy! I too stressed out horribly until the 7th week u/s - try not to stress too bad - :-)) - jen
Thank you guys so much! After two early miscarriages in the past, I'm just a bit worried...and I'm not going in for an ultrasound until 7 weeks (feels like forever!).
But I'll try not worry so much ;-)
Thanks again!
Congratulations....
I believe if the second beta does not look in range they might need to have more betas to monitor you closer. Since your numbers are really good, I don't think you need more because u/s is more accurate. Another week, you will see the sac. I'm happy for you.
When I had my ectopic they did a bunch but that was just because they weren't doubling like they were supposed to.
With my son, I think I had at least 3 but dr was very worried about me having another ectopic.
This pg, I only had 2. It doubled so dr said we didn't need anymore. He then did an u/s at 5wk4d, 6wk4d and 10wk2d.
best of luck to you!!
At least you get your results after the first. I can't believe we don't! The RE explained it by saying that they don't want to give people false hope. I don't get that, because if the first beta shows a pregnancy, even if the second beta drops, that would be a chemical pregnancy.
Sounds like our Re's only do the two. I'm guessing they would do a 3rd if the 2nd wasn't quite doubling. But with good numbers like yours, they probably saw no need. :-D
Mine does 2 betas as well: one 14 days after retrieval and one a week later. He expects the number to go up 10 times.
Heather,
congrats on your beta doubling! I hope this is it for you.
Oooh, yeah, that would be tough! I did get my results after the first one as well as the second one (145 and 483). But I'm glad your RE has the same approach...it's always good to know I'm not the only one :-)
Thanks for replying!
My doctor only does two as well. One 9 days after retrieval, and one 11. And they don't tell you the results after the 9 day one, because they only tell you the results after a pregnancy is confirmed after day 11. That will be hard to wait!
