just did 2nd IUI on Mon - no trigger since i needed it on Sun and they were closed.
told to abstain 2 days prior - dh has good quality/motility, etc - so we DTD Sat nite - abstained Sun - IUI monday morning - DTD Mon nite and again this morning. Fingers crossed.
what are the semen parameters?
sometimes it does not make sense to do a natural IUI and the best idea is to combine it with hormones.
jenandjon, keep in mind this is not my idea, but when I do IUI i do TI a day prior to IUI and the parameters are the usual test parameter and better.
I would recommend getting the trigger shot. I "supposed" to be perfectly healthy and doing IUI for DH reasons and I am only my 5th IUI with just OPKs and I have had no luck. Just got AF so I'm moving on the try the injectibles..maybe that'll help!
wow!!! I hadn't heard that about the sample. interesting.
I'll def keep that in mind.
Hint: A fertility specialist advises that in 1/3 of the cases a male who gave a poor quality semen sample will produce a better sample within two hours after giving the first one.
It is very important to have timed int. in addition to IUI
I have heard that the egg can live 12-24 hrs which probably accounts for the IUI range. I'd love to have two back-to-back IUIs done. The doc didn't mention anything about that. How much cost difference have you guys seen when they do that?
Feb will prob be pretty much blown as DP is traveling but we're setting up for IUI and Clomid in March.
Do you guys recommend trigger shot or just OPKing?
When I am having a US, I am also having my hormones tested for an additional indication. I like to have the semen waiting for the egg, not vice versa. I think this issue is really important and if DH sperm is fine you should also have TI in addition to the IUI just to make sure the egg is not waiting. It is true that the egg could live 24 hours but it can also live much less...
Good point, kindergal. I guess it depends on when the IUI is scheduled. I would always have two IUIs...the day I got my surge, and then another one the day after. That's why my RE suggested no BDing for two days before. And by my second IUI, the egg was already gone...so for me, it would have been too late to do the IUI 36 hours after only (although, I didn't get a trigger, just used OPKs).
me2angels: OK, I see what you mean. Progesterone levels do start to go up a few hours before ovulation, but you won't see the spike until after O. I've never heard anyone getting a progesterone test before a trigger, though. Did your doctor do that?
My RE said to BD the same day as you have the trigger...in case you ovulate before the 36 hour mark which is when they typically do IUI. Then, bd the same day as IUI.
the progesterone levels spike after ovulation, but while following after the progesterone levels you can see them going up slowly towards ovulation.
When triggering with very low progesterone levels can take longer for ovulation, triggering at progesterone levels of about 3 can induce a good ovulation even within 24 hours.
Progesterone will not go up until after ovulation, so that will not have anything to do with when to BD around trigger/IUI.
I think if you're doing IUI, most doctors suggest abstaining for two days before the IUI, and then you can BD as much as you want after :-)
Are you doing IUI this month? If so, I'm sure your doctor will share his own "rules" before you go in.
Best of luck!
sorry not sure here, just want to let you know that I read your posts
it depends on progesteron levels when triggering
