Yes, I first had my period and was instructed to take lupron about a week or so later, right before I ovulated. As Agini stated, it controls ovulation. I then received, what they call a lupron period, which I think is just a shedding of your edometrium. Afterwards I went for day 3 for baseline u/s and b/w, then started on menopur (stims).
In my case lupron was given more as a way to lower my estrogen level, then to stop ovulaton. I'm currently taking both lupron as well as menopur till it's time for iui. I'm also being monitored closely with b/w and u/s.
NOTE OF CONCERN. Please make sure you are using some form of birth control birth control between now and the when you start taking lupron, especially if it's around ovulation, as lupron can cause birth defects, if not monitored closely. My RE and nurse highly cautioned me about this.
thanks for your response!!!
this is my first time using Lupron, but i already had my period... my RE told me that I have to wait until I'm ovulating to start the shots... that is why I'm a little confused!!! When did you started !!!
Hi... yes it is my second IVF... I have to wait until I'm ovulating to start ob Lupron.... I'm a little confused about how this cycle is going to work ... but it is my first time using Lupron!!! Good luck to u... keep me posted in how it goes...
hi lupron is to control ovulation stimulation, main use is for ovulation.goodluck to u,is this ur 2nd ivf???iam doing my 2nd IVF transfer tomorrow.my 1st IVF failed too in feb.takecare
I can't speak to all the specifics fo Lupron, but I do know that is usually part of the protocols for most ivf treatments. I'm taking it along with menopur and I will be having an iui. My RE put me on lupron as my estrogen levels were a bit elevated. The prefer for your estradiol (estrogen) levels to be low as it helps with the stimulate you, along with stims of course.
If this is the first time you take Lupron, know that shots aren't bad at all, but it may delay you next period by a week or so.
Hope this helps.
