Luteal Phase

Hi Ladies,

So on my chart it says my Luteal Phase is 33 days.  I thought it is supposed to be like 14-16.

Its looks like I O-ed on my own in Feb but we didn't know it was gonna happen so we didn't BD when we should have.

I started spotting CD41 without taking provera ( i was trying to wait) My temp is dropping done a bit now so maybe AF with start soon.

I am confused about the whole Luteal phase thing!  Advice??????

Lynn

In general, the luteal phase for the majority of women is 10-14 days after ovulation with little variation.  Anything shorter than 10 could inidicate a luteal phase problem.

Your cycle should not be in total more than 36 days meaning you could ov as late as day 22.

The time the varies greatly (from cycle to cycle and woman to woman) is the time before ovulation. After ovulation, only 10-14 days later af should arrive.

I had plenty of annouvlation cycles. I have PCOS. The tool on here for charting is ok but really keeping track of it on paper or with a program like Toni Weschler's, then you can rely on it. If you haven't already, I advise getting a book on charting. I used Toni Weshcler's "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" You can see it at Amazon.com.

I had to do 3 tries of IUI with clomid + injectables + trigger to get my dd. We are now onto our 3rd IUI to get baby#2 with clomid +  injectables + trigger.

Good luck!

Ok so it sounds like you have the same problem as me. You might could ask your dr. about trying clomid with a trigger shot. My trigger shots cost about $50-60 each, and that's full cost because my insurance doesn't cover it. It'd be a lot cheaper to try that than to move on to injectibles, which cost much much more. I know how frustrating PCOS can be, especially since we have to spend so much money just to get our bodies to do what most women do on their own! Sending lots of baby dust your way!!

Well I guess we will see what happens this month, Still just spotting here and there throughout the day.  My temps show the 18th thou as a O day.

Oh well I will just move on, Can afford to go to the doc right now!

Maybe you ovulated later than you thought? I don't think it's possible to have a luteal phase longer than 18 days after ovulation unless you are pregnant. If AF is coming now, then it seems more likely that you ovulated within the past 18 days.

I wouldn't really trust FF. It is a simple computer program and if your cycles aren't regular it is not very reliable. I often had to manually adjust it because it got my ovulation day wrong. I highly recommend the clearblue easy fertility monitor. I had irregular cycles as well and had a lot of problems figuring out when I was ovulating. The fertility monitor was the thing that finally worked for me. Best of luck to you.

Did you ovulate when you took clomid, but just not get pregnant? I didn't ovulate on clomid or femara alone, so now I'm doing femara plus injectibles, then a trigger shot to induce ovulation. I would not ovulate without the trigger. Still not pregnant yet, but at least I'm ovulating and that's half the battle! Hope your dr. can figure out what will work for you too - good luck!

I don't have pcos but when I would take ovulation tests I would get a positive however after dr visits and testing I wasn't ovulating well at all.  So we did surgery and meds injectibles and that did the trick.   My close friend has pros and had to do clomid, she now has four kids, must have worked well for her lol.  Just mainly wanted to say good luck and hope u get a bfp soon.

I took provera to get my period and I took clomid for 3 months and it did nothing for me.... according to FF I did ovulate cd 18. If this af comes full on, then I did ovulate, no O no AF

Maybe I will call my doc about it

I was going to start provera today but because I started spotting I'm waiting to see if it gets heavier... it could be late because I have been very stressed out due to I was moving.  Now that we moved this past sat and are almost settled in, I'm not stressed as much!

UGH I just don't know anymore!

Looking at your chart, it doesn't look to me like you ovulated. I had a cycle like that a while back, where my temp rose for a few days so I thought I'd ovulated, but then it dropped back down and I finally had to take provera to get AF. Have you asked your dr. about trying clomid or femara to help you ovulate?

I do have PCOS!  I did not use OPK's this cycle because they were never positive, so i was just doing temp and CM.

I did take a pregnancy test and it was negative. I took the preg test 15dpo and was feb 25th.

Now you have me a bit nervous that I could have been pregnant, and now m/c

I don't think that is whats going on though, I think it is a long cycle due to my pcos

The general rule of thumb is that if the luteal phase is 18 days or longer and then drops it signals a m/c.  Have you taken a pregnancy test?  My friend that has PCOS gets false positives on her OPKs though and thought the same as you with the questions.  This was right before she sought out help from a fertility doctor and had the DX.  Do you have PCOS?
